Yes, there *is* a history of comparing black people to monkeys, but it isn’t always perpetrated and perpetuated by white people. May I remind you all of a well-known black (American) football player who plays for the St. Louis Rams whose (presumably black) mother actually named her son “Simeon” Rice. The spelling might be different but the pronunciation is the same and you know this poor kid had to have been tortured on the playground at school – sort of like the customer service rep who took my call when I was trying to place a lingerie order with Victoria’s Secret and who greeted my call in the following fashion: “Thank you for calling VS, my name is Clitora, how may I help you?” Talk about being nonplused….
