A smiling Janet Jackson was radiant in a retro, high-waisted skirt, leather gloves and beret on the red carpet for the 36th birthday celebration at Tenjune for her honey Jermaine Dupri. With their relationship going strong, it’s a shame Janet couldn’t figure out a way to work it out with her long-time record label Island Records.

Jackson’s rep released a statement about the split in which it was said, “At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship. Now, more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label.” I wonder if this mean’s she’ll be following Mariah Carey‘s recipe for self-management.

But it seems like things are going well for Janet in her personal life. I was a little late to jump on the Jermaine bandwagon, but I have since drunk the Kool-Aid and am completely on board with this relationship.
