Jay-Z admitted his new memoir Decoded that at age 12 he shot his drug-addicted brother. The now 40-year-old multimillionaire rapper businessman and producer was once struggling to grow up in the Brooklyn projects where he said, “guns were everywhere.”
Jay-Z, pictured signing copies of the book in New York City on Nov. 17, fired at his brother during a fight they were having over a stolen ring, wounding but not killing him.
“I thought my life was over. I thought I’d go to jail forever,” he said of the shooting. “It was terrible. I was a boy, a child. I was terrified.”
The superstar rapper once alluded to the incident he said in some lyrics:
The two later reconciled and no charges were filed. The rapper visited his brother when he was hospitalized for addiction, and his brother apologized for his wayward ways, Jay-Z said.
