Jenna Ushkowitz was finally able to publicly open up during this dark time about the death of her Glee costar Cory Monteith. The 27-year-old actress, who plays Tina Cohen-Chang on the FOX TV mega-hit, shared a picture of the cast on her Instagram account Monday, July 22, to pay tribute to her friend and costar who died at the age of 31 from “a mixed drug toxicity” on July 13.
Ushkowitz, who has been a part of ‘Glee’ since it premiered in 2009, opened her statement with…
“I am so grateful that Glee brought this group of extraordinary individuals together to form a family. I was lucky enough to closely experience the love and light that Cory shared with the world, as well as having the privilege of traveling down the road together on a once in a lifetime journey. Cory always reminded me to be gracious, kind and open, and he will leave a mark in my heart forever.”
Ushkowitz continued on to thank fans for reaching out to Montieth’s family and his girlfriend Lea Michele.
“Thank you everyone for your constant support and love while we morn the loss of our dear friend.”
Between the unconditional love and support from the thousands of devastated fans, and the sorrow-filled statements released from former cast members, it’s plain to see that Montieth left a lasting impression on all minds alike. “He was one of the most generous and kind people that I have ever met,” said Dianna Agron, Montieth’s on-set girlfriend.
While making a guest appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, a tearful Jane Lynch (former co-star) stated, “I don’t think he left one day un-lived. He was a real bright light in our family. We’ve lost a really great guy.”
As far as how Lea Michele is coping at this point and time is unknown. Besides a statement released by the star’s rep, Michele has yet to publicly speak out on her own.
