Word on the street is that casting is underway for The Hunger Games, the popular teen novel series that Lionsgate is hoping to score big with. Already in talks for the male lead is Alex Pettyfer (as long as he doesn’t botch it with his ‘tude problem). But the female part is up for grabs, though sources say Jennifer Lawrence is close to nabbing the role (and a major paycheck). However, there are some other hot young actresses still trying to get their hands on the role.

About 10 actresses are vying for the part, including Jennifer’s fellow Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld. Other girls in the running include Sairose Ronan and Abigail Breslin. The film is slated to come out in about a year. I guess it just depends on what direction the filmmakers choose, because those choices couldn’t be more different. Who would you pick?

Hailee Steinfeld!! Jennifer Lawrence is a very talented actress but she is not right for the Katniss. As for Peeta, at this point I’d be happy with anyone but Alex Pettyfer. Although I still think Noel Fisher is perfect for the part.
exactly what I am saying Haliee Steinfeld is only good contender I see trying to get the role of katniss and I also think alex pettyfer should forget about the role of peeta and go 4 the role of Jace in the mortal intruments
I think alex should go 4 the role of Jace in the mortal intruments and I als think they should cast Haliee Steinfeld as Katniss cause shes perfect and she can grow into the role throughout the trilogy if the movie become a success which I know if will

Jennifer is a great actress but she would ruin Katniss’s character.
And i don’t think Alex should play Peeta, he’s too goodlooking ahah and i want him to play jace in the mortal instruments :D
plus i don’t know why people are saying that he IS going to play peeta, he said himself that he hadn’t recieved a script and he’s still deciding about mortal instruments.

And I also think Kaya Scodelario looks exactly like Katniss. Please check her out before you cast this girl who looks way too old.
Don’t pick Hailee Steinfeld. Shes younger than me for crying out loud and too little.

it’s not Pettyfer! Latest news bring on Josh Hatcherson as the biggest candidate for ehich I’m glad, cause Pettyfer is an a$$! But, Jen is perfect! Hailee? Srsly? She is a CHILD! But I must say, Kaya Scodelario would be ideal!
The only problem I have with Jennifer Lawrence is that she is so beautiful, and Katniss isn’t supposed to be beautiful. Even in Winter’s Bone, when she was supposed to look like crap, she was gorgeous under all the makeup. If you make Katniss absolutely stunning, then you ruin the whole idea of her, and you basically ruin the whole movie. I would prefer an unknown; there are plenty of capable actresses who look a lot more like Katniss, and could do just as good a job as Jennifer.
..What? I never recall the book ever saying Katniss is plain or what. Since it’s in Katniss’s point-of-view, it’s a warped look anyway. Most people without ego problems don’t gush about their own appearance, especially a girl who cares little about beauty.
Honestly, I think Katniss would have to be pretty attractive in order to have gained such popularity in the games, even with all the fixing she got.
But I haven’t memorized every single line in the series and what so if there is a real evidence that Katniss is supposed to be plain, do tell.
I think hailee steinfeld would be the perfect Katniss – and she has already proven that she can play a serious role from “True Grit”. Also, I love Alex Pettyfer but not as Peeta. From the time I heard they were making this movie I have wanted William Moseley for Peeta. Like others have said before me, Alex would be the most amazing Jace but NOT Peeta.
Reading the books I didn’t think Katniss was suppose to be beautiful either. I felt like she was attractive, but really appealing. There are people who are not classically beautiful but draw you to them anyway and that’s how I saw Katniss. Jennifer Lawrence is the kind of beautiful that is intimidating- you may love to look at her she comes accross unapproachable.
Reading these books I felt like they could translate really well to movies, but reading the casting rumors I don’t think I’ll be seeing them. As much as I don’t think Lawrence fits the role (and I have seen Winter’s Bone) at least she can act. Alex Pettyfer is like watch a robot try to emote – and I don’t think is the right feel for the character. Peeta is sturdy but I always pictured him to be boyish looking. Alex’s features are pretty hard.
