Jessica Biel Working Her Way Up Mt. Kilimanjaro

So what are you doing this weekend?

Jessica Biel, along with Emile Hirsch, Lupe Fiasco, Santigold, Kenna and a slew of other people are climbing the 19,340-foot Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak, to raise awareness of the global water crisis.

Elizabeth Gore of the United Nations Foundation told People by satellite phone. “The climb is really tough, but I’m proud to say no one has turned back.”

After seven hours of climbing, the group reached 13,600 feet and settled in for an evening of singing and dancing. “We had two groups singing and dancing back and forth,” says Gore. “When you have these great African voices and the likes of Kenna and these other musicians, it was pretty awesome. It was really, really fun.”

Gore says that the A-Team actress is “kicking butt.” To keep her energy up she’s snacking on dried fruit and popcorn. Which I’m sure is what she was shopping for at Whole Foods back on November 30, 2009, when these pictures were taken.

Oh, for God’s sake, the climb ISN’T tough. I’ve done it and plenty of people do. It’s a perfectly straightforward hike for 6 of those days (up and down). The only thing is to ensure you take a day to acclimatise for the altitude before you tackle the top in the early morning. The food is fabulous, cooked by your porters, and I bet she’s not carrying even a day-sack full of makeup. It’s a beautiful climb. She’s probably finding it tough because there are no paps there for 7 days.
