Do we like the serious Jim Carrey as much as the funny Jim Carrey? He was good in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” I’m kind of skeptical about his latest film “The Number 23.”
The thriller stars Carrey as a man whose life begins to unravel as he becomes obsessed with what is known by some as the 23 enigma.
The star had noticed the the number’s mysterious presence even before he took on the movie. He said: “My obsession goes back quite a while, and it was handed to me by a friend in Canada who would point out license plates and how they added up to 23 and everything like that.
“I said he was crazy, and then I started seeing it everywhere, and that’s what is going to happen to people when they come to this movie.”
Does anyone have any good number 23 stories?

I had never heard of the “23 enigma” but as I was reading the story it occurred to me that the numbers in today’s date: 2/14/07 add up to 23.
Coincidence?

Several years ago my dad’s best friend passed away, the date was Nov. 23. The following year, on Nov. 23, another friend of my parents passed away. Two years after that, another friend of theirs passed away, it wasn’t November, but the date was the 23rd. Now, they were freaking! Every 23rd of any month, they would remind each other to be careful, etc. And then my mum realized that many people in her family had died on the 23rd including her mother.
So one year, my mum went to England where her mother is buried in this tiny little churchyard. It was Mothering Sunday (English equivalent of Mother’s Day) and she sat there looking at the tombstone and the number 23 seemed to be just popping out at her and weighing on her mind.
But then… she heard the organ start up in the church (choir rehearsal?) and she sat on the bench just to listen and it was The Lord is My Shepard (FREAKING PSALM 23, yalls) and she said that the music was so beautiful and comforting, she knew that this 23 trouble had been lifted from her and she never worried about it again!
True. Story.

My birthday adds up to 22. 2+5+8+7… but the month isn’t included there. Still pretty weird to think about though. That’s close to 23.

It’s like anything else, you can find coincidences everywhere. Personally I cannot find anything in my life or my family’s that adds up to 23. The number of awful movies Jim Carrey makes = 23!
