Demi Moore may be married to a 32-year-old who pretty much brought the word punk to another level, but the 47-year-old actress does not seem to be up on the current lingo. Kim Kardashian, who recently split from boyfriend Reggie Bush, was making it a girls night out in Miami at the launch of Kelly Rowland’s charity I Heart My Girlfriends which focuses on creating a support system for teenage girls. Kardashian took some mobile phone shots with Rowland and Serena Williams, who’s been vacationing in Miami, and posted them to her twitter with ‘Big pimpin w @SerenajWilliams @LaLaVazquez @Kelly_Rowland Love u girls!’
Moore seemed taken aback by the word that has been a staple in modern lingo for around a decade. ‘Are you using the word “pimpin” as in pimping?’, to which Kardashian replied: ‘Doesn’t everyone? LOL.’
Demi, who who has been using her twitter as a platform to promote her charity DNA which attempts to shape legislation involved in the child slave industry, was not happy with Kardashian’s casual use of the word.
She wrote “@KimKardashian No disrespect I love a girls night out but a pimp and
pimping is nothing more than a slave owner!” She said people needed to stop “glorifying the pimp culture”, to which Kim replied “Nothing wrong with dancing to Big Pimpin’ by Jay Z in the club! Having a girls night out, gotta love that song!”
Many tweeters seemed to take Kardashian’s side, aware that Kim was not using the word in that context, and Demi backed down a little bit tweeting “Clearly I stirred up a s— storm, but 2 create change U have 2 be willing 2 take a risk and be willing 2 provoke thought & conversation.”
All right, so she’s a bit out of touch, but I’m still going to take Demi’s side because she uses Twitter to save people’s lives and Kim uses it to show off when she mingles with celebrities.
