Lady GaGa Gets The Madonna Stamp Of Approval

September 14th, 2009 // 44 Comments

Aside from the Kanye West incident, the major talk of last night’s MTV Video Music Awards has been about one show-stopping Lady GaGa.

The
pop star’s intricate costumes for both the awards show performance and
following after party were the talk of the evening, along with her
dramatic display on stage.

51-year-old pop icon Madonna chatted with MTV News
backstage and said that comparisons to the newcomer made her feel “very
flattered.” The singer described GaGa’s look by saying, “She looks like
she’s going to carnival in Venice, very beautiful.”

Of course, it’s all fun and games until somebody draws first blood.

I think she is amazing. I’m glad someone has come along since Madonna and Cyndi Lauper and stepped outside of the box. Thanks Gaga for not being afraid to express yourself and show the other “artists” what a true artist really is!

It’s ‘Majesty’. Her ‘Majesty’. Idk wtf a Madgesty is. It’s quite dissapointing to read a completely careless mistake from a fellow writer.
As far as Lady Gaga goes…she is so creepy-looking. Although not quite as creepy as Megan Fox. Still…eww.

  6. JC | September 14, 2009 at 3:10 pm

    It’s a pun, Shandy… Madonna’s nickname is “Madge”.

it’s supposed to be “madgesty…” you know madonna’s nickname!

  9. Barky | September 14, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Shandy…don’t get so wrapped up in your writer’s ego. You seem to be awfully narrow-minded. Everybody knows that Madonna is “Madge.” Slow your stroll.

  10. JC | September 14, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Shandy, “Madge” is one of Madonna’s nicknames. It wasn’t a “completely careless mistake”. It was a pun.

I just want to say that I do not understand anything Lady GAGA has to sing or understand why she dresses the way she dresses… I really wish she would change some of her lyrics but that is going alittle bit to far out…I know my child will never listen to her music…and her performance on MTV Awards last night was really in poor taste.

  12. karen | September 14, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Wow, the dress is cute but she should ware a bra and lift those things up she looks like she has had a dozen kids “a wet pair of socks”. Gross not sexy at all.

  13. butterscotch | September 14, 2009 at 4:12 pm

I am completely smitten with her as a character! She is unafraid to take chances artistically and that is such a RARE thing in these safe times. I can’t remember the last time a performer came out in such an original way and made my jaw drop open! I’ve seen a lot…and I thought I had seen it all…but she proved me wrong last night. BRILLIANT!

Ok..I love cyndi lauper and I love madonna.BUT, common now that was a different time and era in music.I remember jumpin my the couch when I was 8 singin ” Girls just wanna have fun”.IN THE 80s!!! I think Lady Ga Ga was tryin to go for that runway model look,ya know? the ones that weat the wierd shit and get away with it because theyre so drop dead gorgeous??? But I think everyone with a sain mind will agree with me when I say this is 2009 and that look just isnt working for her…

  16. JohnBlank | September 14, 2009 at 4:52 pm

If you think Lady Gaga’s too much or you don’t understand her style, get into it or get out. She is the future face of music. Remember that Madonna had the same exact critiscsm when she first came onto the scene, now its Gaga. Get over it and accept it. Go back to your ranch hick life and stay there, if not broaden your horizons and embrace a unique sense of being.

  17. Honey | September 14, 2009 at 5:12 pm

I didn’t get her VMA show, it was weried.

  18. Elle | September 14, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Umm…anyone realize she’s wearing needle point hoops on her head, sort of looking like truly bizarre Mickey Mouse ears?

I think it’s even weirder than Krissy Heines wearing the Loofah on her head during the first MTV Music awards.

  19. JULIASUGARLIPS1 | September 14, 2009 at 6:00 pm

UMM, “SHANDY”..THE WRITER OF THIS STORY STATED THE WORD “MADGESTY”..BECAUSE THAT’S MADONNA’S “NICKNAME”..DUHH!!!!!…THEY ALSO CALL HER “MADGE”..AND IF YOU DID’NT KNOW THAT THEN WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WRITE ABOUT??..LOL..JUST THOUGHT I’D LET YOU KNOW..

    Lady Gaga = “SO WEIRD”

  21. Someone amused | September 14, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Lady Gaga is GAGLY WEIRD! Go Away!

  22. Helen | September 14, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Sorry but Gaga in no way looks like or is similar to Madonna or Cyndy L. Madonna was and has always been new and different but never dark and unreal. Lady Gaga has gone a bit to far. I would compare her more with Marylyn Manson. I had nightmares last night with her. She is WEIRD.

Madonna would have caught pure Hell if she had done what Lady GaGa did last night 20 years ago. When she did “Like a Virgin” at an Award show back then, people were having a fit and don’t forget her video “Like a Prayer”. People wanted to ban her video. Times have really changed. I’m really surprised at MTV for letting Lady GaGa perform her act that way. Tasteless Indeed! The Blood was not necessary and hanging from a rope? Come On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Give me a Break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Angela | September 14, 2009 at 6:43 pm

I LOVED Lady GaGa! She made the show fun! I never knew what to expect her to be wearing next!
She is a Beautiful Lady and a Tremendously Fabulous Artists!
This lady knows how to stop a show, not only with her fantastic vocal ability, but with her artistic side as well! It is almost like going to a play. She truly deserves award! I was very impressed with her, and everything that she brought to the show! WOW!! Best performance of the night!!!

  29. gunit | September 14, 2009 at 6:44 pm

I THINK GAGA IS SO UGLY AND SHE DID NOT KICK ASS IF ANYBODY DID IT WAS JANET JACKSON NOW THAT IS TALENT.

I’m sorry but I have to agree with Helen regarding Lady Gaga and her controversial number. I don’t know why they’re comparing it to Madonna and Cyndi Lauper! They are/were nothing like that! Except the time Madonna got on the floor and rolled around a few times during her song, Like A Virgin. That was 100% classier than what Gaga did. I would, compare Lady Gaga, not only to what Helen said, Marilyn Manson… But I would also highly compare GaGa to Courtney Love she put her leg up while playing guitar -and Lady Gaga puts her leg up on the piano while performing. Slutty woman lol.

    Ugly hangers!

  34. Kev | September 14, 2009 at 8:32 pm

Get off of lady Gaga’s back… OMG! she is the greatest thing this earth has seen since Micheal Jackson… Yes i went there… MICHEAL JACKSON

So what… she took chances… Americans think they are so classy… yeah right… really take a look at our country. For all of those out there who said she has no class F*** Off! You honestly have nothing better to do than bash on her… Why did you even come to this web page. Lady Gaga keep doing what you are doing because obviously from all the haters you have, you are still making money so apperantly, some people like/love/adore you.

  35. cindy | September 14, 2009 at 8:32 pm

Why is it that when Britney shaved her head and wore clothes that didn’t match she was going “crazy”……but this Ga ga woman (may be a man, not sure) can squirt blood on her half naked body while being quite disgusting on stage and yet some of you say she is an “artist”? Geez, you all are nuts!!!!!!!!!

I’m 29 years old and she scares me!

  40. Janice | September 14, 2009 at 11:56 pm

GaGa is vocally gifted. It’s a true shame that she ruins it by being a total and complete self-absorbed wanna be.
Anyone can wear something just to draw attention to them. If she was really true to herself she would let her voice lead her career. Instead she goes for shock value to such an extreme that no one in their right mind should be encouraging.
Also, with all that money she’s making maybe she should consider doing something about those buck teeth she tries to hide behind all that idiotic head gear she comes up with.
Everything she wears makes her look like her designers are out of the nearest kindergarten class.
It’s a sad day when the public encourages someone like this just to see how much further they will go to embarrass themselves.

I LOVE Lady Gaga! I love anyone who dares to be different! Anyone who pushes the envelope! I completely understood what she was saying in her act to her song Paparazzi…that they adore you, then they make you crazy and then they try to kill you! I think that MJ would have loved it! I think Princess Diana would have loved it, because it’s So TRUE when you think about it! THINK about it!

Israel killed 330 children in Gaza. Only Madonna would attempt to profit from such a monster state.

True art does not always make one feel good. True art challenges perceptions of reality, pushes the envelope and forces us to look deeper at the issues it may represents.

Lady Gaga’s performance represents the growing, and dangerous, obsession with fame and the desire to know all the intimate, sordid or ugly details of the lives of those thrust in the spotlight. Ultimately pushing many to self-destructive acts. However, the artistic representation is not nearly as flawed or ugly as what it represents.

    divaD ;-)

PS — Loved the “What Ever Happened To Baby Jane” reference; intentional or not LOL!
