Bill Clinton scores!
Clinton, returning from North Korea, accompanied accompanied by the two American journalists, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, whose release he secured five months after they were captured on the border with China.
In a joint statement, the families of the journalists said they were ”overjoyed by the news of their pardon”.
”We especially want to thank (former) president Bill Clinton for taking on such an arduous mission and (former) vice-president Al Gore for his tireless efforts to bring Laura and Euna home,” they said.
”We must also thank all the people who have supported our families through this ordeal — it has meant the world to us. We are counting the seconds to hold Laura and Euna in our arms.”
Ling’s father, Doug, told CNN: ”I’m elated. This is one of the happiest days of my life. I knew something positive was going to happen, and it happened.
”I’m very thankful for the Government for doing all they can to gain the release.”
What amazing news. Give Bill a cigar. Oh wait, maybe not such a good idea.
