Thankfully Ryan Murphy, Glee‘s creator, remembered Lea Michele from an audition and wrote her role the role of Rachel on the show.
But before that time, she was told on countless times that she was ”too ethnic” and ”not pretty enough” to work in television. How is that possible? Look at the photos of her on the set – who wouldn’t fall in love with that smile?
Michele briefly met Murphy in 2007 and spend the evening talking about Barbra Streisand and a mutual love for musical theatre and then lo-and-behold, she met him again in the audition for Glee.
“Ryan was there, and I went, ‘Do you remember me?’ and he was like, ‘Of course I remember you.’ After going through the studio and the network, he then told me that he had written it with me in mind.”
Perfection. She’s such a cute girl!

@Paul, I’m guessing the OP would list as pretty a bunch of bleach blond plastic surgery disasters like the Hills girls. Some people’s view of beauty is very limited – to the most generic and cliched standard.
I have to say that’s not a great picture of Lea though, I don’t care for the wide, fake smile.
You all must be kidding right? She’s got the facial proportions of a man. She’s got the chin and jaw of a man, a large Jewish nose(which she is part of), her face is neither oval nor round, it’s square like a man’s. If she were a man she would be a handsome young Robert De Niro however she’s a woman.
