CBS News producer Robert (Joe) Halderman, 51, was charged with trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman is out of jail for now on $200,000 bond, but a New York judge also issued a temporary order of protection, which requires Halderman to stay away from the late-night star.
The producer, who was reportedly desperate and deep in debt, is accused of demanding the lump sum in exchange for not releasing information revealing the comedian’s sexual relationships with staffers.
He pleaded not guilty to attempted grand larceny in the first degree — a felony.
It didn’t take long for the scandal to pop up on the late night talk shows. On NBC’s Late Night, Jimmy Fallon also worked it into his monologue: “There’s a new book out called Why Women Have Sex that says there are 237 reasons why women have sex. And folks, Letterman knows the top 10.”
This is not going away anytime soon. I’m thinking Dave is going to keep things in his World Wide Pants from now on.
