Viewers are going mad for Mad Men – sorry the cheesy pun, but it’s true.
For the past few weeks, that’s all I’ve heard about: Jon Hamm‘s Emmy nomination, January Jones‘ love life, the anticipation of the season four premiere — AMC is in overdrive promoting their moneymaker series.
If you missed the Mad Men season premiere this past Sunday, then you missed the newest edition to the cast, Matt Long.
Not ringing any bells? Not surprised. Personally, I think Mad Men struck out with this casting. After reading Long’s poor stat sheet, the three strike rule should be applied.
Strike #1: he starred as Jack in the CW’s Jack & Bobby. The show was canceled after the first season.
Strike #2: he had the lead role in ABC’s The Deep End. Even with a killer cast including Mehcad Brooks, Leah Pipes, Tina Majorino and Billy Zane, the show was canceled after the first season… again.
Strike #3: He starred in Sydney White with Amanda Bynes. Not even playing the young Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider can make up for that!
Seriously, someone should’ve called him OUT a long time ago. Maybe Hollywood has a soft spot?
Bring it, Matt Long. You have all season to win me over.

So, just because a show gets cancelled prematurely:
1. the blame automagically falls on the actors
2. it must somehow be terrible?
I’m sorry, but did you actually watch Jack & Bobby? If I remember correctly it got cancelled right before the CW was formed and the execs gave us the riveting post-series-finale 12th season of Seventh Heaven. You can populate a well-written show with good actors and still be at the mercy of the Nielsens and the whims of network execs – this has been proven again and again. I don’t even think a show like Mad Men would have survived past a single season on network TV without an inordinate amount of luck and promotion.
Samantha,
Who cares what you think?
Matt Long is a hot man,
Samantha, you clearly have never seen Matt Long act. He was stellar in Jack & Bobby, a prematurely canceled show that also featured the talents of John Slattery, who now plays Roger Sterling in Mad Men. According to your logic, that’s one strike against him. Unbelievable.
