Former sisters in expatriate living, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow looked thrilled to be back in each other’s company last night while attending a dinner for their pal Valentino at the Oak Room.  The divorced and determined-not-to-divorce starlets both wore black, with Madonna looking especially space-age in her hybrid leggings/shoes (she and Victoria Beckham do have a lot in common!). 

I imagine Madge and Gwyn spent the meal talking (certainly not eating!) about Guy Ritchie‘s pathetic attemtps to move on, Madge’s burgeoning relationship sex life with her 22-year-old boyfriend, Gwyneth’s failed career in web (“Madonna, they just don’t understand!”) and, of course, the splendor that is their dear friend Valentino. 

The party was to celebrate that new film Valentino: The Last Emperor, which documents the designer’s last year at the head of his fashion house.  Other wealthy elitists A-Listers who attended the fashion-friendly event included models Agyness Deyn and Helena Christensen, who also opted for all-black, while Anne Hathaway, and who provided contrast in her white Valentino gown.  Thankfully, Claire Danes brought some much-needed color to the stoic crowd in her mint iridescent number.  She must be feeling the wedding planning high.
