Matt Damon covers January’s issue of GQ Magazine, and brought his father, Kent along for the interview at New York’s Central Park Zoo. This is a fitting location, given Damon’s upcoming flick, We Bought A Zoo, directed by Cameron Crowe and co-starring Scarlett Johansson.
“Matt’s fans relate to him as an older brother or a member of the family. And that’s how he relates to them,” Crowe said of the star, who plays a widower with two children who opens a zoo. In one scene, Damon shares a poignant moment with a Siberian tiger through a chain link fence.
Said tiger flipped out on Damon, who remained in character while the camera continued to roll. “Most people would have said, ‘This isn’t funny—put a chain on that thing!’ But Matt stays in,” Crowe told GQ. “You see him flinch but stay in.”
