Matt Damon Dons His Jean Tuxedo And Chooses An Ad For Obama

March 18th, 2008 // 19 Comments

Matt Damon, are you going to wear that denim jacket with jeans? I know there was a brief amount of time when that was OK but didn’t one of the pieces have to be darker? What the hell do I know? I think I once bought a sleeveless hoodie down at the Old Navy.

Matt Damon will be among the celebrity judges for MoveOn.org’s Obama in 30 Seconds ad contest. The contest allows Barack Obama supporters to create thirty second advertisments to explain why they back Obama’s candidacy for president. The winning spot will be broadcast on national television.

Matt is joined by his best mate Ben Affleck, John Legend, director Oliver Stone, Moby, and the Reverend Jesse Jackson among others on the judging panel. You can submit entries here.

This is all fine, but the wife seriously let him wear that out? In fashion-forward London? She was a bartender in Miami, she’s got to have some sort of idea what’s going on. I don’t care if he’s Jason Bourne, this is not Canada in the 80s.

I used to think it was better for McCain to go up against Clinton because he had a better chance of winning. Now I’m thinking Obama might be just as easy to beat. So either way I’m cool. Go ahead dems, vote whichever way you want. Your two dream candidates are looking less and less dreamy. Clinton will put us all in the poor house with her universal health care and tax and spend economics on an already burdened economy and Obama is a muslim in Christian clothing with all kinds of skeletons waiting to fall out of the closet.

Barack called this guy his mentor and spiritual leader for many many years and now he’s trying
to say he’s not that close to him.
    What a joke.
Nice guy this guy. Obama listened to him for 15 to 20 years but now denys him? Take a listen.

  3. say what?

don’t count your chickens, moldy…every poll shows this race as a dead heat.

  4. T-Bone

Obama’s reign has definitely ended. Sorry, one can’t align oneself with the equivalent of an anti-American Black Panther for 20 years and then say “oops, I guess he isn’t my mentor. I guess I don’t know him that well. Can I still be your President? Please?” No way…dude is done. The light is finally shining exactly where it should. We’re finally seeing the truth. As I said from day one, this race should come down to two people with experience, a plan, and hopefully a lack of disdain for the country they serve — Clinton vs. McCain.

  5. say what?

uh, let’s be “fair and balanced” here, shall we?

I don’t recall Obama saying ANYTHING to the effect of “oops, I guess he isn’t my mentor. I guess I don’t know him that well. Can I still be your President? Please?”

on the contrary. read up on what obama said before you spew.

I used to like him but A few days ago, he said he was never present and never actually heard his pastor’s controversial views. Now, today he said: “Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely…”

Which convenient “truth” do we believe?

  7. say what?

DD, to which remarks was he referring?

perhaps he was specifically referring to the remarks publicized recently, and was not present for THOSE SPECIFIC REMARKS, but was present for others.

  8. Bob Mold

Well. The Audacity of Hope line comes from Pastor Wright, the Yes We Can line comes from Sammy Davis Jr., the Urgency of Now line comes from Martin Luther King Jr., the Words Matter line comes from a political friend, and Bill Clinton always talked about a Place called Hope Senator Obama’s a follower, a repeater, nothing original there as people think, hiding behind something else.

  9. T-Bone

Yes, say what, I realize Obama did not say exactly those things. But he might as well have. Call it my interpretation ;)

  10. say what?

    um, not even close T-Bone.

he never said anything to the effect of what you said. completely to the contrary, if you bothered to read.

if that’s how you interpreted it, I suggest you take a reading for comprehension course.

  11. T-Bone

Whatever, say what… you just keep trying to defend your anti-American, racist, Black Panther candidate. His true colors are starting to show, and it aint pretty. The public is starting to get it.

And I’d like to hear this guy actually debate! Hillary Clinton has carried his sorry arse the entire way and anyone with a brain can see that. I’m talking “debate”, not a speech. I’ve heard enough of his speeches about change, but let’s hear him on the issues, without Hillary speaking first and spoon-feeding him.

  12. say what?

“whatever”? ooo, what a scathing retort there. that’s your explanation of your (mis)interpretation?

why not actually answer my question instead of throwing out the GOP talking points? What EXACTLY did Obama say that led you to interpret his comments that way? did you even read his comments?

And I hate to break it to you, but he’s not MY candidate. The guy I support isn’t in the race anymore, but I’ll probably write him in. However, I’d defend almost anyone who was being lied about. sort of like you do with your little brit-brit.

  13. T-Bone

My “interpretation” of something is not really something I have to defend, as it is MY interpretation. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, and my opinion is that Barack Obama is a lying to the American people.

Here, do you need quotes, say what? Is that what you’re asking for?

    03/14/2008:
“Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it’s on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue. The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation”.

    SATURDAY MARCH 15:
Wright laced into America’s establishment, blaming the “white arrogance” of America’s Caucasian majority for the woes of the world, especially the oppression suffered by blacks. To underscore the point he refers to the country
as the “United States of White America.” Many in the congregation, INCLUDING BARACK OBAMA nodded in apparent agreement as these statements were made. Obama calls Wright his “spiritual advisor.” He calls Wright one of his prime mentors. Obama got the title of his book, “The Audacity of Hope,” from a Wright sermon of the same name. He says that Wright was extremely important in shaping his life and his views. Obama and his wife were married by Rev. Wright. Reverend Wright baptized Obama’s daughters. Barack Obama donated over $20,000 to Wright’s church in 2006. He continues attending services in Wright’s church.

    TODAY:
“Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely…But the truth is that isn’t all that I know of the man,” he said.

“As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me,” Obama said after describing his experience at Trinity United.

THIS JERK sat in church for 20 years with a Rev. Wright while he spewed this kind of venom: LISTEN HERE — thanks to YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdJB-qkfUHc
And then tried to say HE WASN’T THERE????
    Disgusting!

  14. Jen#1

How could a person who was smart enough to be the head of the Harvard Law Review be so dumb as not to see the church he goes to is a racist church? It was not only what the Pastor said it was the response of the congregation in the background that ran chills up my spine.

  15. Lynn

I listened very carefully to Obama’s speech. I heard it for what it was and is – a dismal attempt to distance himself from a 20-year relationship that Obama now realizes has and will take him down….
I heard Obama admit that he was in the church when Wright said those statements – so he lied earlier when he said he wasn’t in the church (something we all knew was absolutely unbelievable). Obama seems to have questionable ties to: hate mongering reverends; Louis Farrakan; a Syrian; a PLO member; Rezko, who donated 3/4 of a million to Obama and from whom Obama got a “cheap:” house. Where does this end?
We have Michelle Obama saying this country is “mean” and that she is just now “proud of this country”. Gee, I wonder where she heard those statements? And this is our front runner presidential candidate? He had my vote until now.

  16. say what?

I’m not saying that you’re not entitled to your interpretation, and I’m not asking you to DEFEND it, but merely explain it. simple question.

and it’s still not answered. everything you wrote, quotes and all, still don’t amount to “oops, I guess he isn’t my mentor. I guess I don’t know him that well. Can I still be your President? Please?”

stick to defending britney, it’s what you’re best at.

  17. kittycata...

    Back to the story peeps
I wonder if Ben and Matt are still supporting
Obama now they know he’s a liar and belongs
    to a terrifying church?

  18. T-Bone

“stick to defending britney, it’s what you’re best at”

Oh – I think I’ve heard this comment before, Joanie. say what = Joan Durst.

Give it up honey. Your candidate is goin down because of his lies and by the hand of his own supporters. As the old saying goes, “you are known by the company you keep”

  19. AW!d in Texas

Matt probably endorsed him before he knew about this scandal. Probably a few people out there wish they could take back their caucas and primary votes too.
