Michael J. Fox to Receive Honor for Parkinson’s Work

Actor Michael J. Fox is best known for his role in the Back to the Future trilogy and raising awareness for Parkinson’s Disease, an illness that Fox was diagnosed with in 1991.

According to the BBC, Fox will receive an honorary degree of medicine from Sweden’s Karolinska Institute for his work raising funds and awareness for Parkinson’s. The Karolinska Institute also awards the annual Nobel Prize in this discipline.

The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, founded in 2000, has given more than $175 million to
research aimed at developing drugs to combat Parkinson’s.

Fox continues to work even after the diagnosis and has had one of the most successful Hollywood marriages to Tracy Pollan. The couple was recently pictured spending a vacation together in St. Barts.
