Michael Phelps: The Bong Stuff

February 1st, 2009 // 16 Comments

Olympic golden boy Michael Phelps has been rumored to be a party boy who rocketed to international fame after winning eight gold medals in the Beijing summer Olympics.

This picture was taken of the swimmer at a house party he crashed at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

A witness told News of the World, “He didn’t know many people so you’d think he’d be a little shy. But he was loud, obnoxious and slamming beers from the get-go.” Back in 2004, Phelps got 18 months probation for driving under the influence at age 19. Goodbye lucrative endorsement deals!

Well, now I can see how a person could find himself eating 12,000 calories a day.

UPDATE: Michael Phelps has released a statement regarding the photo of him smoking a bong that was released. “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment,” Phelps said in the statement released by one of his agents. “I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

America's next star? It could be anyone
Michael Phelps. Missy Franklin. Jordyn Wieber. Ryan Lochte. Any of those athletes could be the defining face of the U.S. Olympic team in the run-up to the London Games. So far, though, none stands alone as "The One To Watch" -- at least not ...
Phelps pitches Head & Shoulders
Michael Phelps, perhaps the Summer Olympics’ best-known athlete, also may be its best-paid pitchman. Phelps, a 16-time Olympic medalist in swimming, is adding Procter & Gamble’s Head & Shoulders shampoo to the list of products he’s advertising.

I wish he could just say: I smoke, I like it, it does not affect my ability to swim, it should be legal.

I’m sorry, is name of this site, Cele-BUZZ????
..lemme look up ‘buzz’ in my Cheech and Chong dictionary..here it is..yup: BUZZ} to be stoned, a high achieved by intaking marijuana, a noise bees make, a mental serenity achieved through cannabis, a noise chain saws make, a human function of releasing saratonin facilitated through CB1 and CB2 receptor response to THC, a audio alert of impending wash cycle completion, oh yeah and gossip.
Must of taken strong will power to write this nonnews drivel while still pleasantly ‘buzzed’ from last night’s bonging. Or are there different standards for different humans? That jerk Hitler thought so but I thought we had grown out of that. Peace.

on the radio today they basically said he led a sheltered life and is basically a dork … if not for his swimming he would be a never be popular so who can blame him for going a bit wild?

All I have to say is do it w/out cam phones around.

i don’t see what the big deal is about. alot of people smoke, and if you think differently, then you’re naive to believe so. i’m with the first response. he should have said, “i smoke, it doesn’t affect my swimming, find something else to make a story out of.” it not like he was snorting coke off a hookers ass or smoking meth with the neighborhood junkie.

    legalize today
    get high tonite

In college, I recall that the swimmers always had the best lungs… word to the wise Michael – where there is a human being, there is also an opportunity to have yourself photographed doing something wrong.

  13. e | February 2, 2009 at 2:21 pm

It’s too sad. Another example for another slave. He helped others to earn millions, but in the moment he shows that he is human – and no robot – they judge and drop him. Just another little boy, ruined by the lie-society. so watch out who you’re working for…
