While today Barack Obama officially begins his quest to fix the country, last night we were allowed to be shallow and relish in Michelle Obama‘s bare shoulders.
But, seriously, how refreshing is her creamy inaugural gown? Yes, yes, it was the traditional inauguration white, but we thought the one-sleeved, floor-length gown by Jason Wu had just the right amount off-kilter to make what could have been staid dress, very sexy.
A former first lady, who shall remain nameless because we aren’t tacky like that, would’ve bored us all in a matronly, high-necked, over-structured dress by a older, less hip design house.
Jason Wu, who once interned for Narcisco Rodriguez, is a brand, spankin’ new designer who’s first collection debuted in 2006 and regurlarly dresses Amber Valetta, Leighton Meester, Joy Bryant, Gretchen Mol and Kerry Washington.

The DRESS is ugly and very disapointed! No is was not sexy at all! She could have done way better than this!! This was a speical night for Obama ans she can’t even dance with or for her husband due to this ugly dress….
That dress is ridiculous unless you’re going to the senior prom. I don’t know if she realizes it, but being a political fashion statement is a fine line to walk. It’s not the Hollywood red carpet. She needs to keep her shoulders covered. She has a nice figure, but she’s the First Lady of the United States, NOT A SWIMSUIT MODEL. Cover up.
I LOVE this dress! And I’m happy she is picking lesser known designers.
she looked both appropriate and beautiful. barack adored what she wore and said so many many times during the evening. not to mention how he looked at her.
her shoulders? my gracious. it really is a new day for so many people. welcome to the new millennium. leave harsh judgements and biases behind — ride the peace train.
I thought they both look utterly beautiful.
Now they have survived the battle of the election and partied it up…lets get to work and solve (at least) some of the countries problems…Oh ya…haters, let it rest( for a moment at the very least)and embrace this wonderful period in history.
The dress is nice–she is very physically fit and wanted to accentuate some of her best features–her shoulders and arms. I love the way that she chose texture for the inaugural suit and this dress.
I don’t think the picture of the kiss is pretty–just looks awkward.
Looks like toilet paper in certain places, but from afar it looks great!
Michelle looked gorgeous; perfect combination of class and style. Jill Biden looked amazing too but I can’t seem to find the designer of her gown anywhere online….
she needs to keep her shoulders covered? Is this the 1800′s??
Lighten up people. Next you’ll be bitchin that she exposed her ankles…
she looked lovely.
Jill Biden’s dress was by Reem Acra..
