Osama Bin Laden is good and dead, which is cause for much celebration here in America.  And what better way to shake our victorious tail fathers than to turn up the volume on Miley Cyrus‘s”Party In The U.S.A.?”  As is the case in any big event, millions of people took to the interweb to trade quips as soon as news broke Sunday night that the bad guy was gunned down.  New York Magazine took a look at this sudden resurgence in the beat’s popularity and why that was the first song many a patriotic American YouTubed.

“We cherish a solid excuse to indulge in a little high-spirited cockiness, chauvinism, and provincialism about the things we like and do well. Cyrus’s video, which cribs heavily from the clip for Lenny Kravitz’s cover of “American Woman,” is stocked with a great many of those things we like and do well: a drive-in theater, trucks and muscle cars, Daisy Dukes, giant flags. It is, just like bin Laden’s death, another convenient opportunity to celebrate ourselves.”

I would have gone for Whitney Houston singing the National Anthem at the ’91 Super Bowl, but that’s because I’m old and gray.  Those young kids, I tell ya.  They’re just being Miley.
