Mo’Nique Channels Abuse Into Oscar-Buzz Performance

I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see this movie Precious, because the buzz on this movie and everyone in it is Hot Hot Hot!  Anything that brings the Oscar buzz to the recipient of a Razzie for Worst Actress, a 26-year-old newbie, and a former Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School host definitely has my interest peaked.

Mo’Nique, the Charm School host, is an especially interesting choice.  The former star of The Parkers plays a powerfully abusive mother in this flick. (Though Mo’Nique was actually cast in a previous Lee Daniels’ thriller, Shadowboxer, coincidentally as the character Precious.) For her role, the real life loving mother of three, tapped into the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her own brother to play her part. “Coming from being molested as a child, when [director Lee Daniels] said, ‘I need you to be this monster,’ well [I] knew who that monster was,” she explains.

Holy heartbreaking. Who could have guessed that the self-confidant comedian had to endure such trauma? It’s great to see that she not only survived, but thrived and she looks amazing with her recent weight loss and that to-die-for dress!
