Nate Berkus Survives Tsunami

NateberkusMmmm. Nate Berkus, vacationing with male friend.

The Oprah Winfrey Show’s resident interior designer Nate Berkus was among the survivors of this weekend’s devastating tidal waves in Asia, which killed more than 22,000 people. “All of a sudden the roof was ripped off the cottage and my friend and I were taken out to sea,” Berkus told CNN from Sri Lanka. “We were able to hang onto a telephone pole with a mattress wedged between us for literally 30 seconds. There was a calm in the storm and then another wave hit. Both of us were torn away from the phone pole.” His friend, photographer Fernando Bengoechea, remains missing. [via TV Guide, 2nd item]

so he is gay? aww man, all boys in design are bum hyumpers.

  2. sonja

the death of so many people makes you think that he; gay or not is one lucky person. i ONLY HOPE HE REALIZES THAT FACT

  3. Hephaestion

I can not even believe the poster named Ru used the term “bum hyumper” in his/her post. Fernando is probably DEAD and he is MISSING and you have the nerve to use an anti-gay epithet. That is too sad for words. Pathetic.

Please pray for Nate Bergus and the Family of Fernando Bengoechea. They could all use our prayers and sympathy. Thank you and God Bless You.

Ru is disgusting. These are people, like thousands of others, who have suffered through tremendous devastation and trauma and you have the gall to criticize his sexuality?? You are sick.

  6. Nancy

I think Nate Berkus is an awesome designer, but the issue here is not about his sexuality. The issue is his male friend that is missing, along with thousands of other people. All that Ru cares about is someones sexuality. Maybe Ru should sit down and pray for the families that have missing loved ones and feel lucky that he is not one of them. My prayers and sympathy go out to Nate Berkus, and Fernando Bengoechea’s family, and all of the other families that have missing loved ones.

  7. Deena

I can not believe how insensitive people are! What difference does it make if your straight or gay? The most important thing is that we are all human beings and we all feel. My heart goes out to Nate and Fernando. I can not imagine the devastation that Nate and Fernando’s family are feeling at this time. Nate please know that you are in our hearts and prayers at this difficult time. You have a community behind you with full support in Reno Nevada…Take care Nate…With much love, Deena and Gigi

    As for Ru: IDIOT

God Bless you Nate. Please know that so many people are praying for you, Fernando, and the thousands that have lost their lives in this horrible tragedy.
May the Good Lord give you the strength to get through all of this.
Look forward to seeing you on Oprah when you are able.
    Hang in there.
    David

My thoughts and prayers are with Nate, Fernando and his Family, and the thousands who have suffered from this horrible tragedy. Despite everything I have seen, I can not fathom the devastation or suffering experienced by the victims. This is a enormous loss for the human race. As for Ru – you are pathetic!! All you can offer is some senseless comment about someone’s sexuality. You disgust me!

May best and most sincerest thoughts and prayers are with Nate and Fernando’s family. I can not imagine the recurring images he must be reliving everyday, as well as all the other people, incl., children and parents!! I can not imagine such human suffering and pain of not knowing where your loved one is for even a minute. God bless all and let us come together as a nation to offer help.

My deepest prayers, sincere care and thoughts go to Nate and the Bengoechea family during this terrible tragedy. The loss of a loved one is so hard to bear, and with the tragic circumstances that they have faced it has to be agonizing. I think that people have to realize that we are all human. I don’t care about your race, religion, gender,or sexual prefrence, we are all human. Peoploe have put this big deal into is nate “gay”or not, and my opinion is who cares. This man is mourning the loss of someone that meant alot to him, and we shouldn’t judge him on his sexual prefrence. I was reading some of the comments that people had made about him being a “bum hyumper” or “gay or not he should be lucky to be alive , I just hope that he knows it, and my comment to that is I am sure he knows he is lucky to be alive, and if the only thing you can come up with is that he is a “bum hyumper” then you have no buisness to be commenting of this situation. Oh, and to anyone that is reading this. I’m gay too! With lots of love to nate.. return to O soon…Joey

RU, may god bless you most of all, you need it!

  13. K.

Strange, the waves didn’t ask anyone whether they were straight or gay, old or young or whether they deserved to live or die. They just came and went, leaving devastation and despair behind.

When I turned on Oprah and saw that Nate and his partner was involved in the Tsunami, my heart fell right out of my chest. How awful it must have been. My prayers are with you Nate! Remember that Fernando will always be with you in your dear heart. It’s so sad and I think about you every day of how devasting it must have been to be in such a horrible tragedy. Please take care of yourself!! And RU, you are a heartless piece of trash!! How could you!

  15. Larry

After watching Opera, and learning to find out about Nate losing his boyfriend (Fernando) to the Tsunami in Asia, I immediately sent my bf an email to tell him I love him, he called me later to tell me he recieved the email,
What I have taken from this disaster, is to have no regrets, say what you feel, never hold back, and give back what what has been given to you..Life is to short and not to be taken for granted..

Nate my heart aches for you, may god be with you!

    Luv Larry

  16. ger

This truly is a tragedy, but am I missing something? Does Nate read A Socialite’s Life? Why is everyone in here speaking to him?

And one more thing. “I immediately sent my bf an email to tell him I love him”?!? Pick up the damn phone.

  17. Debbie Keats

Until visiting this site today I was unaware of the comments by Ru, sadly I am not at all surprised. I didn’t realize until today that there are people that have never had sadness in there own lives, because anyone who has would never use a time such as this to publisize themselves in order to hurt others. Really, have people learned anything?
Nate we all Love you and all I can say is
    “I AM SORRY”
