‘New Moon’ Gets Big Box Office, Disappoints Critics

November 20th, 2009 // 19 Comments

Movie critics haven’t been nearly as excited about The Twilight Saga: New Moon as fans. Roger Ebert says of the film’s characters, “Their charisma is by Madame Tussaud.” The Los Angeles Times laments that lack of chemistry between Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart while USA Today thinks that KStew and Robert Pattinson‘s relationship is the one that suffers the most.

Regardless, fans have flocked to the theater, effectively breaking the record for most advance sales of any film ever. New Moon is expected to earn more than $85 million for its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Kristen and Rob are doing their best not let the sparks fly off-screen, seen here leave a lounge in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan separately.

What about you guys? What did you think of New Moon?

I thought it was great, some parts might not have been in there, but they did touch on all things that would have been in those parts. I loved it. I think chris and cast did a great job! And hopefully people won’t be so harsh with there thoughts on It. I’ll be seeing it again before it hits dvd.

Too much Jacob not enough Edward. Since they knew this was a problem anyway you’d think they would have at least not felt thew need to rush through what few scenes bella and edward have together and why add more jacob scenes when he’s in it ENOUGH. Really disappointed with the direction it’s going. Forget Eclipse. I’m out.

I think Nimi needs to read the book and then Nimi will understand the movie plot. People shouldn’t comment on anything twilight unless they have read the books!!!!

    P.S. READ THE BOOKS…DUH.

Am i the only one who actually thinks that “new moon” lacked imagination? like seriously? it cut out most details…VERY disappointing.

(and yes i have read the books)

thats why i state…the movie is a disappointing to the fullest degree !

I think that if the previous director and the director now… should combine together and remake new moon. because the graphics to new moon was awesome and the details from twilight was awesome. so together they make a great movie!

Very disappointing… rushed through/left out to many details for me. I read the books. The fight scenes were entertaining at least. It is too bad…they have a great cast and a great story.

I expected New Moon to not satisfy because the book was mediocre, but held a sliver of hope that the director + actors would liven up the story and improve the lackluster dynamics. But I was unfortunately very disappointed. I absolutely loved Twilight the movie, which led me to read the book (which I also loved). But Twilight went downhill from there. The plot lost real substance. The Edward-Bella ansgt that drew us to Twilight became a sordid, unnerving love triangle…but I digress from the movie itself…I was dissappointed with both Bella and Edward in New Moon – they underacted the whole way through and were completely unbelievable. I dont know if this is as much their fault as it is the director’s. What annoyed me the most were Bella’s repeated *gasps*. What was that all about? Was it a means of demonstrating the magnetic pull Edward was meant to have on Bella? It failed. Another thing I found annoying is how little eye contact B & E made throughout the movie. Passionate love would make them be drawn to each other- to gaze in each other’s eyes unaware of the world around them. I didnt see passion or intensity. I saw mild irritable constipation.

So all in all. While I paid to watch Twilight 4 times at the movies. Eclipse was lucky to get the one time out of me. I tried watching it again from a friend’s downloaded copy – but I got bored and couldnt sit through it again.

I hope the Eclipse-Breaking Dawn movie is better.
