Now that Colin Egglesfield is departing from Melrose Place, his dark, brooding shoes need to be filled by another pretty face. And it seems as if producers of the CW series are hoping that Cougar Town star, Nick Zano, will be able to do just that.

In keeping with the network’s stance that they are hoping to go in a different direction with the series, Zano is being cast in a decidedly more light-hearted role.

Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello talked with Todd Slavkin, who described Zano’s doctor character as “irreverent and funny…He doesn’t take life very seriously. Medicine can be very fun as well as serious to him, and he ends up lightening up Lauren.”

It’s always good news when an actor is given a role in which he can flex both his abdominal and comedic acting muscles.
