Nicole Richie’s Baby Troubles

July 12th, 2007 // 5 Comments

Star magazine is reporting that Nicole’s not only facing legal hurdles at the moment, she allegedly is dealing with the physical repercussions of her substance abuse and questionable eating habits. Maintaining her sobriety while pregnant has been a challenge for the underweight starlet and doctors say that if at the time of conception, she did happen to have drugs in her system, she’ll be facing a higher danger of birth defects or miscarriage. In addition to her struggle to stay off drugs and alcohol, Nicole’s also fighting an uphill battle to attain a healthy weight. Dr. Mary Jane Minkin (who, Star points out, is not treating Nicole) gives her opinion on the situation.

“That baby is at extraordinary risk,” says Dr. Minkin. “Nicole needs to gain at least 40 pounds to nourish the baby properly.”

On a lighter note, Nicole appears to be slowly getting some cleavage back. Yay! Boobies!

Dr Mary Jane Minkin. The name alone sounds dodgy. I’d be interested to know where and what she studied to get the ‘Dr’ before her name.

She can eat.. she just wants to wallow in misery and sympathy for attention but.. oops, we have gone on to better things.

What type of doctor would actually comment on someone’s health without knowing anything about them? Oy vey.

Besides, any good OB will tell you that the baby will literally leach the nutrients it needs from the mother, no matter what. In all reality, Nicole would be the one to suffer in the long run if she doesn’t gain some weight and make sure that she’s eating halfway decently… not the baby.

Where I live the doctors URGE you to NOT gain weight, actually, they monitor your weight because gaining too much weight is not always a good thing. It leads to Diabetes and other problems… not defending nicole but there are LOTS of Asian women that are as small as nicole, that are subjected to NOT gain during their pregnancies.
Also, the human body is very resiliant to drug and alcohol abuse at her age…she would bounce back after at least three clean months.
    I’m just sayin’

Whatever.have Nicole & what’s his name heard of birth control??? They probably thought that since she’s just a pile of bones that she could’t get pregnant. I highly doubt she’ll gain the weight that doctor reommends & that she won’t be able to carry the baby. That is sad but then I feel bad for the poor kid.
