The Giving Back Fund (probably created by Gayle King) has determined that world traveler   Oprah Winfrey is the most generous celebrity. Oprah has given close to $50.2 million in 2007 on education, health care, and advocacy for women and children worldwide.

She tops the list of 30 celebrities, which also includes A&M Records co-founder Herb Alpert, Barbra Streisand, Paul Newman, and Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson?!? Is the Aryan Nation considered to be a charitable organization?
