Pamela Anderson Is Boycotting The Kentucky Derby

February 15th, 2006 // 24 Comments

Beware of the wrath of Pamela Anderson folks. She’s boycotting the Kentucky Derby because of the sponsorship by Kentucky Fried Chicken, who has felt Pamela’s wrath.

The 38-year-old actress, who is an animal rights activist, says her opposition to animal cruelty in all its forms means she can never go back to the famed horse race.

“It makes me want to avoid Kentucky altogether, which is sad because there are so many great people there,” Anderson said in a statement released Tuesday by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Anderson, a PETA member who attended the Derby in 2001 and 2003, has been involved in anti-fur ads and a campaign to raise awareness of what she calls abuse of chickens in processing plants that supply poultry to Louisville-based KFC.

Have a look at all the PETA supporters (yeah, Tim Gunn).

One person who won’t be at a PETA event anytime soon is Beyonce. The fur-loving R&B singer’s clothing label’s latest collection is very pro-fur.

The curvy singer has been sent sacks of letters since her label, Dereon, started selling clothes made of rabbit and chinchilla fur – and teddy bears made of mink.

Furious animal rights campaigners have even threatened to leave carcasses outside the star’s home, according to a report in Britain’s News of The World newspaper.
It isn’t the first time Beyonce has come under fire from animal welfare groups.

The beautiful singer was among a host of celebrities blasted by PETA for wearing Canadian Mukluk boots, which are made of rabbit fur. The organisation’s spokesman Sean Gifford said at the time: “The rabbits are sourced from Asia and love crammed into small, wire boxes before being electrocuted or strangled. Many are skinned alive.

Beyonce may want to have a little chat with Kristin Cavallari, who poses with a bunny in her anti-fur campaign for PETA.

  1. good for pamela. she may seem like a cartoon character, but she’s using her visibility to speak out against animal cruelty. you go girl

  2. Dr. Tia

First off all I just want to say I love Pam but im the Kentucky Derby will not be devastated by her no longer being a guest there. Secondly I love PETA but they shouldnt take such extreme measures just to get people to stop wearing fur. Its ridiculous and very immature. I hope they realize that people in america have freedom rights so if they choose to wear fur so be it then. Also I wanna say I love Kristin and I cant to see her on Veronica Mars playing a gay cheerleader. GO LAGUNA BEACH!!!

  3. Dr. Tia

HaHa ! I meant to say im sure the Kentucky derby wont be devastated :)

  4. Lisa

Yeah, I’m sure all the blue bloods at the Derby are going to stop a long standing tradition because of Pamela Anderson.

  5. Small Fry

There will be plenty of other big fake boobs at the Derby I’m sure.

  6. moi.

it would be pretty cool if someone found a pic of pamela biting on kentucky chiken :D

  7. Silasdog

This big-boobed bimbo is a bubble head. Thorougbred horses get the absolute best care and attention. If anything, this is where she should be going.

  8. Anne

    She’s an idiot.

Many horse actually enjoy racing. They live for it and when they are retired they often hate being so sedentary. If she wants to talk about abused horse she needs to start on boycotting the many slaughterhouses in the US.

Come on Pam do some research before you open your big collogen lips!!

  9. Anna

^ She’s boycotting the Derby because of their sponsorship of KFC, not because she thinks horse racing is a form of animal cruelty.

  10. pablo

Hey, I am all about eating a big ol’ Filet Mignon or New York Strip steak. However, I do agree with PETA on the animals being out down as humanly as possible.

Some of the stories you hear are dreadful.

  11. supernova

She should boycott bad plastic surgery and her drag queen looks (let it go Pam, seriously, you’re not 20 anymore).

  12. tilly

Well I know that must have been a personal sacrifice, since Pamela has been ridden more than Seattle Slew. Maybe retirement from the track and a quite life to be left alone like Garbo would be best for Miss Anderson. :)

  13. Anne

Anna, actually she did state in the news article on usatoday.com that she does feel horse racing is cruelty. “I don’t want to support cruelty to animals, whether it’s forcing horses to raceor scalding chickens alive for our plate.” check it out….http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2006-02-14-anderson-kentucky-derby_x.htm

  14. Grace

Forget KFC. I say we should boycott Pamela Anderson for undue cruelty to her upper rib cage.

  15. Silasdog

Tilly, you had me laughing hard. A great line about Seattle Slew. I am jealous I didn’t think of it.

i grew up in all of the derby mess – i’ve (unfortunately) spent over half of my life in the bluegrass state. i must say that those horses earn more money per race then ms. pam anderson earns in a year. the horses in the derby usually live in stables that are multi milion dollar masterpieces (oh, and they ARE usually nicer than the owners homes). but us kentucky rednecks shall overcome – there will be lots more sillicone at the derby, and enough aging cheap blondes for everyone.

  17. gigi

Yeah, Pamela, Keep you’re skanky butt out of Ky, we don’t need you! Doesn’t she know it’s easy to skin a chicken alive…apparently she’s never seen a chicken with it’s head wrung off! Some of them will keep running around the yard then eventually fall down!

  18. Richard

A question for Pamela…are you going to avoid “Hollywood” altogether? After all there is the ‘Hollywood Park’ race track. Infact California has 7 race tracks and 9 racing fairs. Looks like you’ll have to “avoid California altogether” too.

  19. KyGirl

I think Pam is just trying to save face for the fact that she probably wasn’t even going to be invited to the Derby. After she took on the governor regarding KFC I highly doubt they would ask her to come. If she was thinking, the Derby would be the perfect high profile event for her to use as a platform for PETA. I for one will enjoy the day at the track and drink a mint julip on her behalf right after I place a bet on a horse.

  20. As a native Louisvillian I can assure that we are none too upset about Ms. Pam not visiting our fair city during Derby time. In fact we have decided that it’s best she not attend as her absence will make room for three extra people at the races.

  21. Silasdog

    Chelsea, you rock!

  22. whoever

I’m curious…did pamela get “cruelty free” surgery? because it seems pretty doubtful that plastic surgery doesnt involve animal testing. just a thought

  23. tkjalj

to punipuniexcel if its so unfortunate that you live here in ky why don’t you just move out of here. i have lived here my whole life and feel very fortunate to live here. i like to visit other places but it’s always great to be back home! and as far as pam not coming to ky, great! she’s so fake and i’m not just talking about her boobs either.
