Is a photograph of Justin Bieber worth your life? Apparently so.
Bieber’s distinctive white Ferrari – driven by someone believed to be a friend of Bieber’s – was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol for a routine traffic stop on Sepulveda Boulevard at 6 pm on Tuesday.
According to TMZ.com, the photographer had been following the vehicle and got out of his car to take pictures of the scene. He was running back to his own car when he was hit and killed by a passing vehicle.
The driver stopped and tried to give first aid to the photographer – as yet unnamed – but he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital shortly afterwards.
LA police officer James Stoughton confirmed that Bieber was not in the Ferrari at the time of the incident. He told the Los Angeles Times that no charges are likely to be filed against the motorist who hit the photographer.
Bieber issued a statement today saying: “While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.
“Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.”
The paparazzo was just doing his job, however, one has to be responsible when doing so. What makes this whole thing even more sad, is the fact that the Biebs wasn’t even in the car!
