PETA has more than a few bones to pick with the Olsen twins on yet another one of their luxury items. The Olsens’ line called The Row is retailing their latest fall fashion line animal skinned tote at $16,900.
The PETA organization said in a statement to Gossip Cop about the luxury tote,“What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it’s the foxes, calves, and alligators — who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain — who pay the dearest price.” The tote is available in calf and alligator skin as well as the multi-fur option.
As CFDA womenswear designers of the year 2012, the twins seem to be holding their own, regardless of what PETA has to say about animal cruelty, to create such high-end designer pieces.Apparently the Olsens are notorious enemies with PETA for several years. PETA has referred to Mary-Kate and Ashley as the “Trollsens” and a disturbing website is devoted to exploit the twins on their fashion choices.
From a fashion perspective, some are praising the the animal-plated tote for the aesthetics and functionality. One fan and fashion blogger Rachel Zoe said, ” Pretty in patchwork, The Row’s posh pack combines comfort and class. The fuzzy texture on this nifty knapsack is also a fashion favorite. Perfect for pre-fall, it’s never too soon to start thinking ahead for your next season’s staple!”
