Peter Falk’s Daughter Says He Has Alzheimer’s

December 16th, 2008 // 4 Comments

For those of you who were fetuses or merely a tenting in your father’s pants back in the 70s/80s, Peter Falk is a masterful actor who played trenchcoated detective Columbo back in the day. Oh, you might also know him as the grandfather who read tiny Fred Savage the bedtime story in The Princess Bride. Anyway, his daughter has filed a petition in court for conservatorship over his estate because he has Alzheimer’s. If we were into using emoticons, I would be placing the sad face one right here.

His daughter Katherine says that the actor “requires full-time custodial care for his health and safety,” in paper she filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Falk’s daughter says that her Dad “can easily be deceived into transferring away property” and want to protect him from “fraud or undue influence.”

There will be a hearing next month. Ugh. Alzheimer’s is the worst. So unfair.

Horrible disease. It’s painful to see patients when they are “sundowning” at night. They scream, cry, try to run out of the hospital…

One poor man cut his arm breaking his hospital room window. It happened so fast. He thought the staff was trying to kill him. Who wants to live like that?

    Very sad.

Another amazing Falk performance can be found in the Jon Favreau movie “Made.” Absolutely hilarious.

Hi My mother had Alzheimers so I fully understand the situation although very frustrating for family and friends, that person is still there and we must give them love and
    encouragement and be very patient.
I am a partime writer and one I will
write a story of my experience with this journey.
I wish Catherine Falk and all her family love and support and should like to add that I love your fathers work in films and “Columbo”.
    Best Wishes
