Claudette Colbert (1903-1996)
If you don't know who Claudette Colbert is stop everything and go watch the film It Happened One Night. Done? Good. Now you can see why Claudette was one of the most beautiful and most popular actresses of her time. She hit it big with sound pictures and had a diverse filmography which includes Cleopatra and The Palm Beach Story. She is perhaps best remembered for It Happened One Night, which is credited with starting the screwball comedy genre. She own her only Oscar for Best Actress for the film. Claudette continued to work until 1986, but sadly passed in 1996 at the age of 92 after a series of strokes.
