Beauty and the Beast has grossed over $400 million in box office earnings and was the first animated film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It went on to win Best Original Song for "Beauty and the Beast" and Best Original Score. Besides that, Belle represented an independent woman who loved reading, selflessly gave herself in order to save her ill father, and taught us the importance looking beyond the surface in order to see and understand a person's heart.
