Bring on the treats, it’s time for another wacky Project Runway All Stars challenge. This week the designers were asked to create a look inspired by gelato. Yes that’s right, the Italian sorbet!
To sweeten the deal, Angela brought in world renown designer Diane Von Furstenberg and yummy guest judge Miranda Kerr who is looking absolutely flawless considering she just gave birth to baby Flynn a few months ago. Everything sounded perfect until our Heidi Klum doppelganger dropped the news of another All Star twist.
The designers would only have 6 hours to complete this challenge and the colors they used had to be based on an accompanying fabric swatch to their flavor of choice. Michael Costello got to pick his flavor first because of last week’s win and he chose grapefruit. Mondo went next and chose cantaloupe. Mila chose milk and sour cherry which is so typical of her.
There was a great deal of panic erupting as designers rushed around trying to complete their looks in such a short amount of time. Austin looked like he was going to stab Kara with a pair of scissors when she stole his sewing machine. He chose vanilla madagascar, making it look and sound fabulous. Kara on the other hand, struggled quite a bit.
She was last in choosing her flavor and was stuck with chocolate and cayenne pepper. Her multi ruffled number made her frail skeletal looking model seem pregnant. None of the female judges were impressed by this.
April also struggled with the time limit. While she made the blueberry flavor look beautiful by layering bright blue fabric with purple tulle overlay, the corset was a disaster and it ultimately determined her departure from the show.
Although Michael Costello’s silky satin pink draped dress was pretty, it didn’t seem as current as Mondo’s flawless caftan made from mandarin orange and funky green. Miranda Kerr liked Mondo’s better because she can wear a bra to hold up her luscious breast feeding tah tahs. But in the end the judges loved Costello’s piece more.
Mondo seemed a little surprised, not to mention annoyed by the judges decision. But knowing this feisty little fashinisto, he’ll only be more motivated to prove them wrong. Bring on the drama!
