It’s amazing how one designer can be completely likable if they keep their mouth shut and stick to fashion, but the moment they decide to show their true colors the audience will turn on them. Such is the case of Ven, who went from an impeccable designer to the most hated contestant in the entire series of Lifetime’s Project Runway.
Tim Gunn announced that the challenge this week was to design a look for a woman with fashion trouble, with the help of her close friend. Each designer was to consult with their client and then design a look that would compliment them and translate into everyday life. Some designers flourished while others fell flat.
Sonjia was paired with a sporty girl client named Amanda and immediately started making a dress for her that would show off her curves. Elena was paired with Jenna, who loves color and overuses it. Christopher was paired with Kate and designed two pieces for her, both a dress and a jacket.
Alicia made a pink cocktail dress for her client Martina and even though it was out of her comfort zone, this designer did pretty well. Melissa designed a great cocktail dress for her client Kandace, but the judges didn’t really get to see the bodice of this little black dress because it was accessorized with a scarf and covered most of the piece as the client walked the runway.
Gunner connected well with his sassy client Kim and designed a fun, flirty black dress that she could wear to either the office or to a party. Kim had a great personality and the judges loved her fun walk down the runway. Dimitry made a fabulous electric blue dress for his client Angela, who also got a fantastic hair cut and color. Fabio also connected well with his client Ko-Rely. This adorable tomboy was able to keep her edge in the dress Fabio designed that was many shades of gray. The judges loved it so much that Fabio won the challenge.
Nathan, Sonjia, and Ven were in the bottom three. Sonjia’s look was too heavy on her petite client and Michael Kors did not approve of the draping. Nathan let his client control the situation too much and looked to her for guidance for her R&B styled dress. It turned out very cheap looking and the judges sent him packing.
And then there was Ven. We are talking about a huge, massive man of whom we would expect to look in a mirror before bitching about his poor client Terri. He immediately went on a tirade over her weight and size. He couldn’t possibly imagine how he was going to design for someone ‘real’. Yet, he made sure to take all the credit for anything that went into the design and refused to admit how shitty his look actually was. In essence, he royally pissed off every woman in America. Can Terri get a re-do? Someone get Christian Siriano back here and get that woman a real dress. Ven needs to get his own ass to the gym before he goes around criticizing people’s bodies.
The judges threatened to send him home and tried to scare him, but it was worthless. The minute he walked back into the green room he was stating that he didn’t deserve to be in the bottom. Whatever.

I wasn’t surprised to see Ven stick around another week. They’ve liked his designs too much in the past to let him go after one bad challenge. That said, I was talking about this with one of my Dish co-workers just now and we both think he’s getting kind of one-note. His dresses all look the same! I was glad my Hopper recorded this for me last night, because I wasn’t home to watch it live. I got caught up during breakfast and was able to talk about it with everyone at work (there’s a bunch of us who are OBSESSED with this show and have been for years). I would LOVE it if they got Christian to go make Terri a real dress after everything Ven put her through. She deserves it!
