Remember 1998? The 55th Golden Globe Awards

January 9th, 2009 // 11 Comments

Duuuuuuuuude, this should take you back.

This gallery includes some ridiculous looks back at the Golden Globes Awards show from over a decade ago. Back then, Jennifer Lopez was married to her first husband (you read that right, her FIRST), Ojani Noa. She wasn’t even with Ben Affleck (which seems light years ago) because he was too busy dating Gwyneth Paltrow, both of whom picked up awards that evening (Good Will Hunting and Shakespeare in Love, respectively).

This was the year that Titanic was all over the place, with people pledging left and right that their hearts would go on, an emotionally-charged Ving Rhames giving his Golden Globe to Jack Lemmon and Christine Lahti narrowly missing the acceptance for her award because she was in the bathroom.

Reminisce with us, won’t you? And then check back on Sunday for the newest Golden Globe memories.

Featured in the gallery: Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Madonna, Calista Flockhart, Goldie Hawn, Shirley MacClaine, Sigourney Weaver, Brooke Shields, Juila Roberts, Steven Speilberg, Helen Hunt, Jack Nicholson, David Duchovney, Gillian Anderson, James Cameron, Michelle Pfeiffer, David Kelly, Peter Fonda, Sandra Bullock, Anthony Edwards, Christine Lahti, Kevin Spacey, Sheryl Crow, Tea Leoni, Ving Rhames, Jack Lemmon, The Full Monty cast, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Kim Basinger, Alec Bladwin, Burt Reynolds, Michael J. Fox, Djimon Hounsou, Cybil Shepard, Kurt Russell, Pam Grier, Daniel Day-Lewis, Rebecca Miller, Jennifer Lopez, Ojana Non, Gloria Stewart, James Cameron, Linda Hamilton Helena Bonham Carter, Rupert Everett and Julia Roberts.

Jennifer was so beautiful back then. She was more natural. A real Latina. She had more curves and dark hair. Still cute, but more commercialized.

Like the typical 90s kid I was too caught up in Brit Brit at the time but this entry is still making me nostalgic. The first picture of Jennifer is beautiful; she just has this glow which she’s lost over the past ten years, and wow Leonardo is young!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was also released in ’98! The geek in me refused to let that go by unnoticed. >.<

    OMG Kate Winslet WHY!?!

I don’t know what it is, but for some reason a majority of these people look way sexier to me 10 years later…I mean, Gillian Anderson, Kate Winslet, Leo (although he was totally boyishly hot back then), pretty much everyone with the exception of Jack Nicholson and Goldie (who scares me lately)

Wow, the good ol days before spray on tans…….everyone is so pasty white and not orange!

Kate Winslet has got to be happy with her transformation… and how young does David Duchovny look.
