Ricki Lake is Half the Woman She Used to Be

May 9th, 2007 // 6 Comments

Former talk show host, Ricki Lake, has dropped from once carrying a whopping 250 pounds to 123 pounds and is posing on the cover of Us Weekly to show off the fruits of her weight-loss labors. Most impressive is probably the fact that she went from a size 24 to a 4 without the use of surgery. From Us:

On crash dieting in 1991:
“… I went on this extreme diet. I used to faint because I wasn’t eating and I was always exercising.”

On the most exciting thing about her new weight:
“For the longest time, when I was very heavy, I couldn’t cross my legs. I couldn’t physically do it. LOVE that I can cross my legs now … Even my shoe size is changing. My Jimmy Choos are too big now.”

On what she thinks of super-skinny actresses:
“I think I have no wrinkles because I always had fat on my face. Really skinny girls age so fast.”

Most recently, Ricki’s been working on a documentary entitled, “The Business of Being Born,” which is all about home birth and Ricki is even featured giving birth, naked in a tub for the film. Well, good for her and all that jazz. But she is reminding me how much I miss the trashy talk ridiculousness of the mid-to late 90′s, back when paternity tests and biker makeovers filled the airwaves as far as the eye could see.

Whatever. Once a fat chick, always a fat chick. She was born a fat chick, she has lived a fat chick’s life, and she’ll die a fat chick. If her family and friends are lucky, she won’t require a crane to lower her fat ass into the ground. Ride Lo

    Wow, and I suppose you’re a super-fit, attractive Brad Pitt-type.

Wow that’s amazing and KUDOS to her for doing it big! I was a little on the heavy side growing up and have battled with weight since graduating with my Bachelor’s in 04. Now I’m training for my first triathlon and on my way back down to a cute size 6! 4 if i can get there…hey… gotta think realistically first!

Of course not, Charlotte. However, I learned to be happy with myself at a young age and never felt the need to substitute food for affection. Ricki’s in a hard business where fat chicks don’t get many plum roles; fat best friend of a hot chick, sister of a mafia boss, Marc Anthony’s wife – how many of those roles are available on a regular basis? Ride Lo

“Once a fat chick” sounds like something an average non-thinking drone would say. Makes no sense. No one is “born a fat chick.” Fat people get fat because they consume more than they burn. To Ashlee: We lose weight by burning more than we consume. No secrets, just blatant fact.
BTW, LoRider, I’m glad you’ve learned to be happy with yourself “at a young age.” It seems that remaining ignorant is bliss, and that an ounce of maturity would surely rob you of your happiness.
