When Robert Downey Jr. first learned that Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie planned to portray the lead character as “the first modern martial artist,” he tells CTV News, “I thought, that’s just a fresh way to go.”
While diehard fans of the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle tale might shy away from the physicality and shirtlessness demonstrated by RDJ in the title role, Guy Ritchie couldn’t be more pleased. Ritchie explains, “His English accent is almost flawless. He just seems like the perfect guy.”
Downey Jr. says he can relate to the detective character by saying, “My neutral gear is dissatisfaction. In that way I can really relate to Holmes, because he rebels at stagnation.” And to keep the stagnation at bay, the bookish actor fed his brain and his parasite at Scotts restaurant with his wife, Susan Levi, in London, with a copy of Richard Attenborough‘s autobiography in hand.
