London, Paris, Rome…Milan! This week’s featured “queen-testant” may be gone, but she’s surely not forgotten! This Broadway beauty (who appeared on the Great White Way in Hairspray) has definitely got the goods and just because she sashayed away after three weeks in the bottom two (and some very memorable “lip sync for your life” challenges), the curtain isn’t likely to fall on this Big Apple bombshell! We got to chat with Milan about the art of drag, influences and inspirations and working with the legendary RuPaul in our exclusive interview!
Socialite Life: Tell me a little bit about yourself?
Milan: My name is Dwayne Cooper aka Milan aka Dwayne Milan. I love to entertain people and I’m the black guy your mother would love and the guy your father warned you about. Lol!
SL: You told us your Mom is a big inspiration to you. Why?
Milan: My mom is a big inspiration for two reasons: 1. Because she is a fighter who has overcome many hardships while being able to provide for us too. She is a drag queen herself who loves me unconditionally.
More from Milan…
SL: Who else inspires you?
Milan: I’m inspired by mover and shakers like Jesus and Martin Luther King and Madonna.
SL: How would you describe your look?
Milan: (I’m a) chameleon. I consider Milan as an actress who morphs into the needed role at the given time but I do LIVE for Halston and Bob Mackie.
SL: What do you enjoy most about performing?
Milan: Seeing the faces of people who get what I do and are moved by it.
SL: Where is your favorite place to perform?
Milan: In my living room!
SL: What can people expect to see when they come see you perform?
Milan: High energy, fierce dancing, great looks and Kool-Aid smiles!
SL: Have you ever had an embarrassing moment on stage?
Milan: I forgot all the words to “Cherish” by Kool and The Gang at a school recital. (I) still don’t know ‘em. Lol!
SL: What do you think separates you from the other queens?
Milan: 100,000 dollars!
SL: What was it like working with RuPaul?
Milan: It was a dream come true to work with her and I wanna work with her more. Having accomplished many artistic things in her life, I think of Ru as a “big brista” (brother/sister) and mentor at times.
SL: What was it like working with the other queens?
Milan: Stay tuned!
SL: What would people be surprised to know about you?
Milan: My age – no one ever thinks I’m 36.
SL: What do you hope people will learn about you from the show?
Milan: That I genuinely have a heart of gold, want to help our community AND that I am a force.
SL: What song would be your dream song to “lip sync for your life”?
Milan: My own music or Deee-lite‘s “Groove is in The Heart”.
SL: What words of wisdom do you live by?
Milan: Try to have fun and not take things too seriously
SL: Could you share one of your beauty tips with us?
Milan: Black don’t crack.
SL: What one beauty item can you not live without?
SL: What are you hoping to gain from your experience on the show?
Milan: I’m hoping people will see my heart/feel more educated and want to work with in some artistic capacity long after the season ends.
SL: Any upcoming news, future projects or events you’d like to share with us?
Milan: I’m a writer/producer outside of my drag skills. I’d like to nurture that more and do more charity work.
SL: How can your fans best stay in touch with you?
Milan: Call my momma. Lol! (Lol indeed…you can actually stay in touch with Milan via Twitter – @DwayneMilan - and on Facebook.) Milan also has a website, http://dwaynemilan.com/.
