Salma Hayek revealed to V Magazine that when when she first entered the U.S., she was an illegal immigrant. The actress moved to L.A. in the 1990s to pursue an acting career, but she didn’t have proper documentation.
“I was an illegal immigrant in the United States,” Hayek admitted, pictured with Francois-Henri Pinault and their daughter Valentina in Paris yesterday. “It was for a small period of time, but I still did it.”
Hayek also said she struggled to find roles in Hollywood as a Latina woman.
“I had to endure the worst time of all in terms of racial discrimination in Hollywood when I first started out,” she said. “It was inconceivable to American directors and producers that a Mexican woman could have a lead role.”
That’s pretty hard to believe looking at her now: who could refuse Salma Hayek?! Seems pretty difficult to me.
