“I think this insatiable appetite for the shallow tidbits of celebrity culture is just a distraction from getting involved politically and questioning our leaders.
“All we talk about now are ‘celebrities’. They call themselves actors, they get paid as actors and sometimes, they’re paid more than me. But often these people have done absolutely nothing.”

Oh yes, it is a noble pursuit to shill for The Gap.
Yes Sarah, you’re absolutely right. We should be focused on politics and nothing but politics 24/7. Somewhere along the line we have strayed, but thank God that you were able to come along and straighten us out! By the way, thats a lovely picture… what rag mag was it taken for again?
Hee..hee…spot on to both comments. I felt embarrassed for her as soon as those words started coming out of her mouth.
I have never heard the woman utter an cohesive thought.
lol at “sometimes, they get paid more than me”. what a clown…
still, there is some truth to what she says. i love the odd touch of celeb gossip as much as the next guy, but it’s odd that celebrity ‘life’ – that’s personal lives, not their work – is marketed so aggressively. it’s weird that people are intimately familiar with jessica simpson’s dating situation, yet can’t discuss the war on iraq without resorting to platitudes.
still, no one loves paparazzi shots of lohan more than i!
Sad to say it, but the reason we are more focused on whether or not Paris is pissing in the back seat of a cab versus being concerned about the war is because some find politics boring. And wouldn’t all these celebs be crying if we WEREN’T paying attention to them? That’s how they make the big bucks.
Two words Ms. Parker: Shut. Up.
Okay SJP sometimes seems a little flighty; and she doesn’t always think before she opens her WELL EDUCATED mouth…this time she aint wrong…there are too many people famous for having done absolutely nothing. Considering she can sing, dance, do comedy and drama; no one should be paid more than her. It may just be my opinion; but far too many people think she is Carrie Bradshaw…that is just a role she played (very convincingly, obviously)
in a way i see her point about celebrities lives being such a big focus and half of them have done nothing of any merit bla bla bla
but it sounds a lil like Sour Grapes…
What has she starred in thats actually been a big hit since Sex In The City???
oh thats right nothing….
(feel free correct me if im wrong)
Ya whatever..blah..blah…blah..SJP..didn’t i see a pic of you reading intouch magazine while getting your hair done a few weeks back?!
Poor Sarah… such a tough life. Just because she out-negotiated her co-stars on SITC and earned substantially more than they did doesn’t mean she can do that to all celebrities. Some people just have better marketing machines and agents than she does. She should be grateful. If it weren’t for the stylist on SITC, Sarah wouldn’t have been getting the supplemental attention she has gotten. Now, for my final political statement: I think it is safe to assume that if we were to suggest that social security not be paid to the wealthiest 1% in this country, SJP would be one of the loudest claiming her civil rights had somehow been jeopardized. So, what solutions would she like to offer to: social security reform; budget issues; roaming politicians who run for senator in whatever state has the most power; lobby reform; etc., etc., etc… and finally, will she allow her son to serve his country in the military?
She sounds pretentious, but she makes sense. Everybody likes to pretend like her opinion doesn’t matter because she’s an actress, but if it was some random woman on the street you were talking to who said it, you’d think she was astute. Take the words for what they are instead of factoring her celebrity into it. And since when do celebs make the “big bucks” from paparazzi pictures?
JerseyGirl, I assume that by saying “big bucks” you are referring to my comment. As you can see I said nothing about paparazzi photos. I said if we weren’t “paying attention to them.” That encompasses things other than Star magazine.
she’s right but she promotes the gap and a perfume and talks about her life to magazines and in tabloids all the time.
She’s right. It’s a little ironic, reading something like that on a blog like this, but serves us right. Shame on all of us for falling asleep at the wheel and spending more time worrying about Paris Hilton’s overused lady bits than about why we’re in a war we can’t win.
Gee folks, perhaps we should organize a benefit concert for Ms. Parker. Obviously, she needs the extra income to make up for the moola that;s been withheld from her by the evil moguls of show biz. Yuk.
Would she prefer we all get up in arms; take to the streets; burn flags and threaten foreigners over a cartoon in a newspaper?
She’s right, but without gossip mags and blog and columns, their profiles would be nothing. Their celebrity is made on gossip. And she’s one of the few intelligent celebrities out there. So what if she’s a celebrity, she’s allowed to have her own opinions as well, she’s a human being that has gotten a lot of luck in her life. Its better than listening to Paris pretending to be smart.
