Those of us who watched Even Stevens know that Shia LeBeouf is not the kind of actor who should stick soley to action flicks. In fact, what he’s doing at the moment is precisely the direction fans want his career to move in.
Transformers and Indiana Jones were fun, and I’m sure it was a trip to star alongside Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett, but let’s be honest. There has always been something unique about LeBeouf, and it was only a matter of time before a film like The Weinstein Company’s Lawless came along.
I’ve made a lot of movies about plot and device,” LaBeouf told the Washington Post. “Now, I find myself being attracted to — and being allowed to make — more movies about people and characters.”
Though the reviews for the film were mixed, IndieWire wrote that LeBeouf’s performance will “silence” his critics. The young star’s next flick is Robert Redford‘s The Company You Keep.
Lawless, co-starring Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke and Guy Pearce, features LeBeouf as the least violent of three bootlegging Appalachian brothers who protect themselves and their (sketchy) livelihood from a Chicago lawman (Pearce). Check out the trailer after the jump.
