Smug

September 27th, 2007 // 79 Comments

The Most Beautiful Woman In The World, Angelina Jolie, knows she’s taking moonbeams home in a jar or however else you want to describe her perfect life. Here she is appearing at the Clinton Global Initiative Conference. Whenever she can, she brings starpower to the causes she believes in. She’s a damn saint. After she dies, she’ll appear to small children in impoverished South American countries and cause a religious furor.

The third annual Global Initiative conference drew world leaders, celebrities and scholars for three days of panel discussions and smaller working sessions about four broad topics: poverty relief, global health, education and energy and climate change.

More than $10 billion was pledged toward world causes in the first two conferences, and participants were expected to pledge more this year.

Former president Bill Clinton runs this bitch, and the cool thing is – if people don’t follow through with their pledges, they aren’t invited back. So if Angie says she’s going to adopt more orphanages, then Lycee De Francais De New York or whatever the hell it is better have some new registrations come next fall. Or Bill Clinton says you’re out. Unless you blow him. Don’t yell at me, it’s not like he’s not down like that.

most beautiful woman in the world?
    ick

  2. Ugh | September 27, 2007 at 9:26 am

No, she’s not the most beautiful woman in the world, not even close. She is however the most fake and sickening.

  3. T-Bone | September 27, 2007 at 9:46 am

You have to admire her charity work and the fact that she hasn’t backed down from her causes. But you’re right — there’s something “smug” about her — something not quite trustworthy.

  4. Angietothemax | September 27, 2007 at 10:11 am

Just another day in the life of Brangelina. They are definitely a force together. Angie speaking on behalf for education of refugees and Brad working on getting his N.O. project completed. It’s a very exciting time.

  5. brangiesucks | September 27, 2007 at 10:45 am

Do they have anything concrete to show for their humanitarian efforts other than the children Mangie has purchased? In two years, just how homes has Bradly built in NO? With all the money Angie’s donated to the corrupt UN, is there anything to show for it? A school? A hospital wing? Feeding a hungry village? I hate this smug bitch.

  6. Monica | September 27, 2007 at 10:47 am

I think you meant the most overrated woman in the world. I’m so fucking sick Mangelina and her gross skeleton hands.

  7. LeslieD | September 27, 2007 at 11:10 am

Does Brangelina ever stop acting? Who takes care of the kids while they trot the globe? We never see the team of nannies that have to be behind the scenes. Only the kids and parents, meticulously coiffed and posing for the cameras. PR machines to the max and very clever with it.

  8. essie | September 27, 2007 at 11:15 am

If you want to know what they have done that is “concrete” why don’t you google it? You might be amazed at what you find. And I don’t believe Angie donates to the UN. She and Brad have their own Foundation. She volunteers for the UN. I don’t believe the UN accepts donations. It’s run by the member countries. Perhaps you should look that up while you are doing your googling!!!

Looking at one photograph and saying someone is “smug” is grossly unfair. Did you see and/or hear her speech? Didn’t think so.

Would you like Angie better if she got caught driving drunk like Keifer; would you like her better if she hung out at Hyde every night like Paris; would you like her better if she neglected her babies like Brit?

Angelina may not be a “saint” but she is a good person and is doing a lot of good with her charity work. What have any of you done lately? Right. That’s what I thought.

  9. brangiesucks | September 27, 2007 at 11:27 am

essie, how did you escape from the Just Jared Asylum for Brangeloonies? What, you can’t just list all the tangible contributions Brangelina have made? I thought the list would be vast that the list would come rolling out of your mouth.

And both Brad and Angie are not the best parents. Dragging everyone all over the world pretending they are royalty and deserve special treatment. She’s an anorexic skank who’s current addiction is adopting children and leading her Pitt puppy around.

And thanks for the lesson on the UN…LMAO

  10. green cardigan | September 27, 2007 at 12:06 pm

    http://givingback.org/GivingBack30.html

Ok, God help me, I googled them. The site above gives a list of the celebrities who made the largest public donations to charities in 2006. Oprah Winfrey is way out front. Brang (joint) are No.12 on the list donating 2,415,000 to their various charities.

You can’t dispute their generosity but I don’t think its too far off the mark to call them ‘smug’. There is definitely a element of preening in everything they do. Tiger Woods for example, donated $9,500,000 to his various charities . Do you ever hear a peep out of him? No.

  11. Elle | September 27, 2007 at 1:04 pm

Their “gifts” are tax write-offs so it’s really the American people who are making these “contributions” and NOT these self absorbed, bloated ticks.

  12. T-Bone | September 27, 2007 at 1:40 pm

I wish some HUGE star would take on the cause of child sexual abuse. I work in the mental health field and I’ll tell you what…the sh*t that I see often stems from this very thing. Someone needs to spend their millions on this horrifying piece of society!

  13. Pearly | September 27, 2007 at 2:10 pm

    Junkie.

  14. Pearly again | September 27, 2007 at 2:16 pm

“Angelina may not be a “saint” but she is a good person and is doing a lot of good with her charity work. What have any of you done lately? Right. That’s what I thought.”

What? What did you think? I work in a nursing hom 50 hrs a week plus and on the weekends I (FOR FREE) go help people in their homes..you know like wipe their ass and wash their pee sheets and make em dinner..like actually DOING stuff for people..free.
I am not tooting my own horn for no reason…it’s just that people can do more than wield a checkbook or fly on their private jet to show their face someplace you know?
    Asshole.

  15. Zekers | September 27, 2007 at 2:18 pm

In small ways some have, T-Bone by sharing their own experiences. It remains a pretty taboo subject. I used to work with EI/MI children and I have to admit, it was a struggle to read the case histories to formulate Tx plans for them. It took everything in me to contain my hostility toward the abusers whom I had to meet with and occasionally send the child back home with…the vicious cycle that stems from child abuse, to this day amazes me and it will continue until, as you pointed out, it becomes an open subject in society. But, you make a good point as there certainly is a tremendous need for funding, programs, education…

  16. Jolie is a JOKE | September 27, 2007 at 2:38 pm

Jolie can’t keep her kids in ONE school. Maddox is 6? and has been to countless schools across the globe.

This alone should make it IMPOSSIBLE to adopt MORE kids. These adoption agencies need to red flag her and not give her anymore kids. Those kids are going to end up messed up and stupid.

  17. fake fake fake | September 27, 2007 at 2:41 pm

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt get too much publicity and attention for their charitable work. Long before Angelina grew up and moved on from her wild child phase, regular people all over the world have been doing charitable and volunteer service (without making millions of dollars). While it is nice that these multi-millionaires can sacrifice a little time and some money, the regular, every day people (who dont have fancy clothes and money to spare) who commit their lives to service, whether it be through Doctors without Borders, PeaceCorps, are the people that deserve attention.

It is a shame that the media can only bring attention to humanitarian efforts only after superifical celebrities make it their issue.

And Brad Pitt: he is hardly “green.” HE FLIES IN A PRIVATE JET WEEKLY.

And the fact that Angelina only “worries about things, like family,” doesnt make her a saint, or extra-ordinary. That is the way it should be. Yes, other people also worry and care about their families.

  18. Megan | September 27, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Whoa aggression for people doing good things, fucked up. People with the high powered status of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt can accomplish far more by bringing attention to issues than by doing the occasional volunteer work.

But you know what, you’re totally right, those three children they adopted definitely have FAR worse lives now than they would have had in orphanages in third world countries.

And Ellie, so what you’re saying is no one should donate money because they’re obviously only doing it for greedy reasons. You know, they might save paying 40% of that donation in taxes. They’re giving the other 60% to avoid paying the 40% to the government. Wow, math skills, that’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever heard.

I think it’s cute that you’re all so bothered by their seemingly-perfect lives. Perhaps you should spend your time finding a life of your own than getting mad at others who have one. Or maybe, since you are all also saints, cancel your Internet connection, give that money to charity (but don’t claim it as a deduction!) and spend the hours of your life you won’t be at your computer volunteering instead. Just a thought!

  19. coco | September 27, 2007 at 2:46 pm

first of all, you can’t compare how much celebrities are donating..oprah is worth over a billion dollars…tiger woods very close to that…so yes…the more you have…the larger your donation..besides….its easy to donate money…has oprah and other celebs gone to places that angelina gone to???? war/ poverty stricken countries…I don’t think so!!!!!!

  20. SF | September 27, 2007 at 2:46 pm

Pearly: you just DID toot your own horn for no reason – unless you meant to flaunt your self-righteous ass. Talk about a pot calling a kettle black. In any case, just because you’re “good” doesn’t make them “bad.” So don’t be an asshole.

In the big picture, saints or assholes, time is great and to tell the truth, money is better; because with money you can pay people for their time. Sorry to burst your bubble. Donating time is what average people w/o millions to donate do. Naturally doing both is best but yeah, its not a perfect world.

For fame or not, what Bradangie is doing isn’t a bad thing and it doesn’t seem right to criticize their actions – even if they don’t have the best of intentions they are doing the right things. That’s better than some shits who talk talk talk about their wholesome pure intentions of making the world a better place than Bradangie are while sitting on their ass in front of a computer.

  21. FUCK YOU JOLIE FOR USING THE POOR TO GET AWARDS | September 27, 2007 at 2:47 pm

People need to stop giving this meglomaniac more validation and attention.

Instead worship INDERJIT KHURANA a truly amazing Indian woman who opened up 70 schools in India to teach HOMELESS KIDS. SHE WORKS WITH THEM EVERYDAY.
SHE IS A SAINT AND SHE DIDNT HAVE MILLIONS OR A FAT WALLET.

    read more about her here
    http://www.pbs.org/opb/thenewheroes/meet/khurana.html

  22. T-Bone | September 27, 2007 at 2:48 pm

This is just my opinion, but I think a child who only has soup to eat every day and lives in a tiny hut is better off than a child who has been sexually abused. They at least know that someone tried to love and care for them.

  23. Zekers | September 27, 2007 at 2:52 pm

SF: I have to say I agree with “even if they don’t have the best of intentions they are doing the right things. That’s better than…” no matter what the reasons for doing what they are doing, they are DOING it! It wouldn’t matter if Angelina was doing it just to improve her karma, it still benefits the right people…and no, I’m not a fan, I just like to recognize people when they make sense and you make sense!

  24. wahtever | September 27, 2007 at 2:53 pm

Whatever I watched that panel and Angelina took up all the time talking instead of letting the Afghan Education Minister talk. The moderator kissed her ass.

  25. MIA FARROW | September 27, 2007 at 2:56 pm

MIA FARROW IS 100 million times better.

She adopted kids and gave them a STABLE HOME.
She went to Darfur before Jolie did..

  26. wendy | September 27, 2007 at 3:01 pm

I’m sorry but how is someone like Jolie with a history of hard drug abuse, cutting, psych ward visits and incest with her brother on public display…how is she even allowed to adopt????????????????????

Now she’s got anorexia and is living a “nomadic” life that is anything but stable. Living with Pitt who couldn’t wait at least 6 months after his divorce to start a new relationship. Most therapists will tell you that’s very unhealthy.

How is Jolie allowed to even adopt?

  27. Angietothemax | September 27, 2007 at 3:07 pm

What’s with the who’s a better humanitarian competition? Angie has been doing this work for the past 6 years and because of her passion she is able to move up and become more of an influence in Washington. Good for her. Good for all the others that are making a difference in their own way. That’s the amazing part when you effect one person you can effect a whole generation and generations to come.

  28. nastybugger | September 27, 2007 at 3:17 pm

apparently coco has been living under a rock.

yes, Oprah and other celebs go to war-torn and poverty stricken countries. didn’t oprah just build a school over in Africa for girls?

  29. T-Bone | September 27, 2007 at 3:20 pm

I think what most people are saying, Angietothemax, is that they don’t really like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. They seem to appreciate their charity-giving and the fact that they’ve adopted children from orphanages, but they question their motivation and sincerity (and the fact that those kids have zero stability). I’m all for them giving away their millions — believe me. Any kind of giving is better than no giving at all. But their past behaviors have caught up with them, and the general public has a hard time forgiving and forgetting. Maybe I’m wrong – I don’t know.

  30. not a fan | September 27, 2007 at 3:23 pm

THESE TWO DON”T KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORD EDUCATION. ANGELINA SAT ON SOME EDUCATION PANEL? HELL HER MADDOX HAS BEEN TO 4-5 DIFFERENT SCHOOLS AND HE”S WHAT IN THE FIRST GRADE?

SHE DIDN”T EVEN FINISH HIGH SCHOOL BUT GOT HER GED BECAUSE IT WAS TOO BORING.

CLINTON NEEDS TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND REALIZE WHO HE IS DEALING WITH AN ATTENTION MEGLOMANIAC WHO IS DRAWN TO SUFFERING BECAUSE SHE USED to cut herself. She has a dark side that doesn’t mean she’s compassionate.

if she was truly compassionate she would use her UN work for pr and she wouldn’t own 5-7 houses and suvs and helicopter rides …double standard when you are trying to save AIDS orphans who have nothing.

VOMIT INDUCING. I Can’t Stand her.

  31. green cardigan | September 27, 2007 at 3:23 pm

You know, reading all these posts it really is a case of every little helps, no matter what the source or motive. There is so much pain and suffering in this world, families torn apart by famine and war, that even if a celeb is forking out the dough for tax relief purposes or to make him or herself look good, in the end, really, so what? if it means that some young child or old person has a chance of having a little comfort in their lives.

So I say, go Ange and Brad. Make a difference.

  32. yuri | September 27, 2007 at 3:26 pm

Jolie wastes resources. Who needs 5-6 mansions all over the world? What a SMUG pretentious “humanitarian.”

And she went on and on with that gruesome story on her panel to get attention and really take away from discussing ISSUES which she is not qualified to do.

  33. Zekers | September 27, 2007 at 3:29 pm

No, you’re not wrong T, it is pretty hard to ignore how disgusting these two have behaved in the past, it is hard to ignore their lack of a stable home for their children, but it is also hard to ignore that they are trying to contribute to the world in a good way, now…
Personally, I don’t care what people’s reasons are for trying to help, as long as they’re trying to help. But, it sure isn’t going to erase who they really are…which seems to be the bottom line here.

  34. You now it's true | September 27, 2007 at 3:33 pm

She’s ugly inside and out. I can’t believe people buy her crappy “I’m a saint” performance. She can’t act for shit on screen or off the screen. So overrated… *vomit*

  35. Eyes of Green | September 27, 2007 at 3:35 pm

Man, there is no lightening rod bigger than a Brad/Angie post…

Honestly people, have NONE of us ever done something wrong/bad/dark/evil in our past? In some religions, just saying the nasty things that are said about them is a ‘sin’. Anyway, I digress – my point is, everyone can change their lives if they want to, and it’s not up to us to judge her worthiness to give her money and time away. She is making a difference, even if it is only to ignite this firestorm of criticism, and maybe it will make someone reading this examine their own lives and motives. Since no one can read her mind, you can’t claim to know her motives. I doubt someone would spend as much time/money as she does on all her causes if she did not have good intentions. And I’m not talking about a tax break.

And BTW, to whomever said Maddox is getting screwed on his education – you know that HOW? I don’t think his grades are made public. Just because Angelina dropped out of HS doesn’t mean she won’t educate her children. Give me a break!! Perhaps in her old age she’s realized the importance of education. And when you become a parent, you do start to realize that the folly of your youth is not something you want your children to do also.

  36. Pearly | September 27, 2007 at 3:37 pm

I would never say what they are doing is bad, I was pointing out that people other than celebs do volunteer work. Period.
That doesn’t make me an asshole..oh maybe to an Brangelina worshipper it does.

  37. jenfraud | September 27, 2007 at 3:41 pm

Too funny, bunch of you resentful PLAIN JANES can’t do anything but to bitch and deal with your inferiority complex. You should be, since you ARE, all indeed very, very inferior to Angelina, just as your favorite REJECT Miss FRAUD Aniston. Congrats!

  38. Angietothemax | September 27, 2007 at 3:41 pm

How does their past behavior effect anyone here? I didn’t know all of y’all were married to Brad I thought only Jennifer was and she seems more than fine. Because you know the aftermath of their behavior has been such a tragedy. Total devastation.

  39. yaya | September 27, 2007 at 3:42 pm

So what if she donates, so do millions of other people, people who are not rich, people who do not ask for recognition of it. She should try to donate some time to a permanent residence so those children can have a stable homelife and go to the same school for more than a couple of weeks at a time and make friends and live in a house and not hotels or temp-homes.

  40. green cardigan | September 27, 2007 at 3:44 pm

OK! who forgot to lock padded Cell No.37 over at Jared and left Patient Jenfraud out???

  41. Angietothemax | September 27, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Angie did not drop out of school she graduated early at the age of 16.

  42. You now it's true | September 27, 2007 at 3:54 pm

Some people *cough jenfraud cough* should learn from other people in this blog *cough Angietothemax cough* that name calling and being just nasty to people who express their personal views won’t change other people´s opinion. And talking shit about Jennifer Aniston in an Angelina Jolie thread makes you sound beyond crazy. Do you see the picture up there? It’s Angelina’s not Jennifer’s. Deal with it.

  43. Monica | September 27, 2007 at 3:57 pm

With a combined 2006 income of 55 million dollars (source Forbes.com), their charitable giving of 2,415,000 equates to just under 4% of their income. The average American give 3.5% of their income to charity. Sure, Mange and Brad give just under .5% more, but when you consider the disposable income they they have vs the average person, they really aren’t doing anything so over the top and certainly not the 1/3 that Mangelina claimed she was giving.

  44. green cardigan | September 27, 2007 at 3:59 pm

Angietothemax…….’graduated early’ eh? I get a kick out of your posts, you defend Ange to the end :)

  45. Eyes of Green | September 27, 2007 at 4:01 pm

Ya’ll crack me up…so does anyone know how much loose change is under the seat of their car???

  46. essie | September 27, 2007 at 4:02 pm

I realize that a lot of people hate Angie and Brad and that’s okay. But can’t we be civil about it? I find it hilarious that people who like them are called “loonies” while the people who hate them and rile and rage against them using the most foul language I’ve ever heard, think that’s okay and normal!!! Makes me laugh, so it’s okay!!!

Anyway, the Jolie-Pitts have only ONE child of school age. How do you people know whether or not Maddox is being tutored during their travels? You do know that he goes to that French school which has schools all over the world and they teach the exact same thing on the exact same day in all the schools? So Maddox is not behind in his studies . . . the little “studies” that a 6 year old actually have!!

And, finally, my take on “stability” is that a child who wakes up every morning and goes to bed every night in the same place where his parents are is a secure child and that makes that child stable and happy. It doesn’t matter where in the world that child is. A house or a city don’t make you stable nor do they make you happy, people who love you make you happy.

And T-bone I totally agree with you on child sexual abuse and I too wish a big star would take up the cause. But why should any star do it? They would only get abuse from people who think they are doing it for the publicity or the tax deduction or to make themselves a saint. Why bother?? I sometimes wonder why any star would bother doing any charitable work. Better to just party every night and drive drunk. Have fun.

  47. nastybugger | September 27, 2007 at 4:06 pm

why is it that the freakish angie fans ALWAYS think that everything having to do with angie is an angie/jen issue?

jenfraud, seek help. I implore you.

are we at 50 posts yet? :)

  48. Calie | September 27, 2007 at 4:07 pm

She is just a pawn when someone wants attention for some organization. She said recently that she wanted to up her work, please. She is just a name to get attention that is all and people use her when they want that attnetion. I have a sister and a BIL both very, very high up in Washington and they talk about how certain celebs think that they are all big with their political dealings when what they really are is a joke and that is what basically all the people in Washington and around the world truely think. This isn’t so about all of them but for most. And AJ is one of them. It is mainly b/c of how she supposedly has changed in the recent few years so drastically but also b/c she acts so erratic and makes little sense alot of the time while there. I think that she may mean well but I can totally see where the people who have spent their lives educating themselves and working would look at someone (celebs) and see them come into DC and just decide to start spewing about certain things and how it would irritate them and be hard to take them seriously.

  49. United we stand | September 27, 2007 at 4:18 pm

Essie, I see what you’re trying to say but so far I’ve only seen one person here getting mocked and called “loonie” and that is Jenfraud. I see people here that like the Jolie-Pitt family and people do not agree with them but they are not being called “loonies” because they are not attacking people that do no share their point of view. That’s at least my take on this.

  50. green cardigan | September 27, 2007 at 4:25 pm

T-Bone – I agree completely with your comments on child abuse. It’s still such a touchy, taboo subject in our society though, that I imagine that most celebs would be afraid to touch it with a 40 foot pole. Also, not being flippant, it doesn’t have the glamour of Africa. Which is sad, because it destroys lives.
