Well, the 2008 Olympics have come to a close but for those of you still yearning for international sports events to follow, you can rejoice because here are pictures from the opening ceremony for the 2008 US Tennis Open! Here are pictures from the opening gala held in New York for the event.

In addition to tennis stars Martina Navratilova, Maria Sharapova, Chris Evert, Boris Becker and Ilie Nastase, celebrity tennis enthusiasts included Paula Abdul, Forest Whitaker, Martha Stewart and others. I really hope they kept Paula away from the rackets.

I don’t really follow tennis, but I feel that of all the sports, I could most easily picture myself in some tennis gear. Running around with a racket in a skirt and “accidentally” showing off my bloomers to my sexy doubles partner sounds both scandalous and fabulous. Scabulous? Hmm, not quite as sexy as I thought it would sound…
