The holy trinity of American Horror Story: Coven — Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett — were all on hand for Saturday night’s premiere at Pacific Design Center on October 5, 2013 in West Hollywood, California.
They were joined by a number of the other cast members from the show including Evan Peters, Emma Roberts and Sarah Paulson. Glee represented as well, with Darren Criss, Jenna Ushkowitz and Jane Lynch in the house.
If you’ve seen the teasers for the show, you know that you’re going to be in for a wild ride this season. Creator Ryan Murphy says that he’s totally in love with this season and it should be quite enjoyable.
“I love this season. It’s my favorite season we’ve done so far, largely because I love the comedy of it and I think it’s really scary,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
Murphy continued, “[Coven] was designed to be scary, but more fun. I heard a lot last year, ‘Oh we love it, but it’s hard to sit through.’ So I wanted this year to be not so hard to sit through.”
Ryan revealed to The Huffington Post as to how Kathy Bates came on board.
“Those two have been friends forever, and that’s actually how Kathy came into our lives. Jessica said, ‘You know, Kathy never misses an episode — you should meet with her.’ I’d known we were going to do Madame LaLaurie, so I met with her and said, ‘I don’t know if you’d ever want to play a character that’s eight times worse than your character on Misery, but …[Laughs.] I have the perfect part for you!’ So she listened and then she said, ‘I need to think about it.’ And she called me literally 45 minutes later and said, ‘I’m in!’ I just spent the weekend with her and she says this part is her favorite part she’s ever played. She loves the costumes, she loves the arc, she loves the comedy.”
