And another one bites the dust!
On the latest episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead, viewers had to say goodbye to yet another character whether they were ready or not. And better yet, viewers had to accept Rick Grimes’ form of justice whether they agreed or not.
But first, we caught up with Daryl, Michonne, Bob, and Tyreese who finally found the veterinary school.
They grab the meds they need for the sick people back at the prison, although Bob lingers in a corner and picks up a rogue item before they flee the scene of walkers. Prior to reaching the vet school, they came upon a gas station and some vines. Daryl and Michonne noticed that Tyreese is still a loose canon and asked him to chill out while he chopped vines, but instead he kept at it and let a bunch of walkers loose from a gate.
Later on when the group stumbled out the second story window of the vet school Bob wouldn’t let go of his bag while he was being attacked by walkers. Come to find out, he was hoarding a bag full of alcohol he had found rather than meds for the sick people. Earlier in the show Daryl had comforted him by telling him the bargain store roof cave in was not his fault, even though his picking up a bottle of whiskey is what led to the collapse. But this time around, Daryl was not pleased with Bob. And told him to get his shit together.
Is anyone else a little nervous that Bob admitted to being part of two groups prior to the prison group and was the sole survivor in both cases?
Carol reassured Lizzy that things would be okay if she learned to survive and didn’t let her fear get in the way of her life. Then Rick and Carol went on a run to find meds and antibiotics in houses in the abandoned suburbs. They came across a ditzy couple, a dude with a dislocated shoulder and a chic with a bum leg, who were holed up in a bathroom of a house. They seemed naive, but Rick said they could come back to the prison if they helped find meds for them. Well, Carol made them contribute in order to return with them.
However, while Rick and Carol were out they noticed the woman’s leg detached and away from her body which was being eaten up by walkers. Oops. No sign of the dude either and Carol refused to wait. Rick even gave the guy his watch and told him to be back in two hours.
Carol tells Rick that she killed the two sick people at the prison because it was a difficult decision that had to be made for the survival of the entire group. Rick tells her that he is nervous that she made this decision without consulting anyone. And she replied by reminding him that he killed Shane without consulting anyone.
Where Rick still reminisces about times with Lori and making bad pancakes on Sunday, Carol won’t even acknowledge her daughter Sofia’s name. Her old life is dead and in its place is a new Carol, a survivor, who no longer lets her emotions control her will to live. Rick is an entirely different story. He is always in a funk for awhile after any major event, is always contemplating the morality of everything he and the group does when in reality regular morals no longer exist in a post apocalyptic world.
Rick tells Carol that she isn’t welcome back at the prison and will have to move on. While on the one hand we understand this decision because Tyreese would have killed Carol anyway or the group would have been torn between two masters, it still seemed like an asshole move to make on the part of Rick. Grimes has goofed up plenty of times and never received those type of consequences. Remember when Carl shot an innocent kid from Woodbury point blank? You didn’t see Rick ousting his own son from the group.
Yet something tells me that we haven’t seen the last of Carol. She might show up just in the nick of time to save Rick and the group’s collective ass. Plus, even though Michonne and Daryl have been bonding lately it is safe to assume that he will be very upset at the news of Carol’s departure.
