The Walking Dead

This episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead featured a flashback scene between Michonne and Andrea during their time in the woods and prior to their discovery of Woodbury.

Michonne’s infamous pet zombies are chained to a tree while the two women eat their dinner. Andrea asks Michonne if she knew the walkers and her quiet friend responds that “They deserved what they got . . . they weren’t human to begin with.”

Whether or not we are supposed to apply this flashback to Michonne or Andrea, our favorite blonde was the center of this episode. The Governor’s people are preparing for war and Andrea speaks to Milton about the alleged peace treaty between Rick and the Governor. Milton sort of covers for his boss, but ends up showing Andrea a room with some pretty messed up stuff going on.

Milton shows Andrea the torture chamber that big man has set up for Michonne. Andrea is horrified and watches the Governor unload his various torture tools. Yet again, she almost decides to kill him by shooting him, but she doesn’t follow through. Later on, she suggests that they overthrow the bastard, but Milton tells her that Martinez would only take his place as the town’s leader. Andrea also bumps into Tyreese and let’s his group know that the Governor isn’t what he seems.

Andrea leaves Woodbury, but with only a knife as her gun was confiscated earlier. Tyreese and Sasha let the Governor know that she has left and he gives them some bull about Andrea’s mental state being insane. He then tells them that they are on a special project with Martinez from here on out. The Governor then bumps into Milton and forces him to admit that Andrea is fully aware about the impending attack on the prison and her friends.

When Tyreese sees what Martinez is up to he is appalled. A pit of walkers await the crew to be prepared for Rick’s group. Tyreese assumes they will be used to eat any survivors from Rick’s group, like the women and children. Tyreese’s buddy Alan tells him to knock it off, as he doesn’t want to lose his safe spot in the town of Woodbury. The two scuffle and Alan is almost thrown into the pit before Tyreese lets him go. Later on that night, a mysterious person sets all the walkers alight with gasoline and flames. The Governor assumes it was Tyreese, but realizes very quickly that he didn’t have access to gasoline. We assume from his conversation in the street that he suspects Milton.

The Governor drives his truck to find Andrea and chases her across a field, following her into an abandoned building. He gives her one last chance to choose his side, but then tries to pursue her. She finds a stairwell full of walkers and sets them loose on him, leaving the man to fight for his life. As she makes her way to the prison, she is within sight of Rick Grimes before the Governor catches up to her and tackles her. He arrives back at Woodbury and tells Milton and Tyreese that he wasn’t able to find her. However, we see Andrea tied to the torture chair in the chamber originally meant for Michonne. It looks like the Governor will be taking out his anger on poor Andrea day-by-day and very slowly.

The cat-and-mouse sequence with the Governor and Andrea in that building was so intense! I couldn’t believe he managed to get out of there alive, but of course he needs to be around for the final showdown between Woodbury and the group at the prison. I’m really excited for how intense that’s going to be! I always used to miss seeing The Walking Dead live because I’m always commuting home from my shift at DISH when it’s on. I just got the DISH Anywhere app for my iPad though, so now I can watch it live while I’m riding the train. It definitely makes the trip more entertaining!
