So it seems like everyone is blogging now, and one person is not too happy about that. The ever-cheery Matt Drudge. With the soon to be launched group blog, by Arianna Huffington and the latest Gawker Media blog Sploid, Drudge is even more ego filled.
On Nick Denton: “I mean, c’mon, this is small-time. How do I take seriously ‘Sploid,’ ‘Gawker,’ ‘Wonkette’? How do you begin to take this seriously? It’s like ‘Supercalifragalisticexpialadocious: This is just in!’…Too cute by half.”
On Arianna Huffington: “This isn’t a dinner party, darling. [T]his is the beast! This is the Internet beast, which is all-consuming, as anyone knows who works in this business.”
I’m sorry cranky-pants. Bring them on. It’s called competition. While you have to consider yourself the best, why bother wasting time dissing others. You’re just coming off as egotistical.
Of course when the Arianna Huffington group blog launches, A Socialite’s Life and everyone else will have a field day making fun of it. That’s part of the game. I mean, when you have contributors like Warren Beatty, Senator Jon Corzine, David Geffen, Viacom co-chief Tom Freston, Barry Diller, Tina Brown and Gwyneth Paltrow, you have to make fun of it.
Sploid is a Gawker version of a British tabloid, co-edited by Choire Sicha (former Gawker editor), Henry Seltzer and Ken Layne. Everyone’s calling Sploid, Drudge Report lite. The site really only posts headlines and links (that’s what Drudge Report does, except for the main headline story), the headlines really seem to mock Drudge’s style. We love this. Standard Deviance has a great post about Sploid & Drudge Report.
Now, if the Drudge Report would only make itself a little more attractive, and clip it’s wings a little, he might have a right to boast.

Gawker Launches Answer to the Drudge Report [Standard Deviance]

honey, seems you are typically about 2 days behind. if not actually “reporting” something of your own, you ought to at least link to your items on the same day they “make” news.
this happened on tues. how about a post tomorrow on something that happens on that particular day.
:)
Drudge and his like that are pissed because everyone blogs now reminds me of the days when academics and Unix geeks were pissed off when the general public started to use the internet 10 or 12 years ago. Nerds tend to get uppity when things like this happen.
Matt needs to get over himself already. What a loser…I mean it’s just the InternetS, for crying out loud.
I never look at the Drudge Report anymore. His right-wing political bias is so obvious and those bizarre “National Enquirer” type stories that he posts are beyond tacky. Plus being a closet queen pretty much seals the deal for me. I think people just have him on their favorites lists out of habit, there are much better blogs out there.
