Esquire Magazine released excerpts from an interview with Shutter Island and Scorsese favorite, Leonardo DiCaprio. Lots of good stuff about the actor in these excerpts. A few in particular caught my fancy.
Leo was out in Hollywood the night River Pheonix died:
“I always wanted to meet him. One night, I was at this Halloween
party, and he passed me. He was beyond pale — he looked white. Before I
got a chance to say hello, he was gone, driving off to the Viper Room,
where he fell over and died.”
That’s a lesson.“
One relationship of DiCaprio’s that confuses me is the one he shares with Kate Winslet. The two are very close and knew each other well before Winslet met her husband, director Sam Mendes. On the set of Revolutionary Road, Winslet wanted to make sure both parties were comfortable with a rather uncomfortable sex scene:
“‘Wait, wait, this is totally weird.’ She turned to both Sam and I and said, ‘Are you guys okay?’
We both looked at each other and said, ‘Yeah, we’re totally fine.’
She said, ‘It’s even weirder that you’re both totally fine.‘”
It’s impressive that DiCaprio has been able to successfully sustain a Hollywood career. Who could say no to Jack Dawson? Youuuuuuuuu’re heeeeere, there’s noooooooooothing I feeaaar.
