The Reason John Travolta And Tom Cruise Missed The Haiti Telethon

January 25th, 2010 // 6 Comments

Arguably (by me) fake ‘aviation awards’.

That’s right. John Travolta is proudly and embarrassingly also known as the Ambassador of Aviation… to someone, I’m just not exactly sure who or how. And why yes, John did get the great honor of awarding his good friend Tom Cruise the (better than an Oscar) Top Aviation Inspiration and Patriotism Award.

Boys will be boys, I guess? I mean, in both John Travolta and Tom Cruise’s defense, it’s not like this whole Haiti thing is really a big deal. Terrible, life shattering tragedies of nature happen now and again, but getting aviation awards that are pretty much made up by John Travolta himself? Totally awesome. Totally worth NOT putting your mega-watt star power into a telethon that will benefit the lives of millions of people who just endured one of the worst things Mother Nature is capable of creating.

But seriously. We never thought these two were cool in the first place. Tom Cruise was the raddest he’ll ever be in Top Gun, but skipping a benefit for Haiti (and attending the after party – check the gallery!) to play butt-buddies with John and call it an award show is just lame. You guys are actors, and play pilots on the side. This does not merit attention, let alone an award.

Just sayin’.

I think this is a bit harsh considering that John Travolta flew his own plane to Haiti to deliver aid. However, Tom Cruise has no excuse.

is it just me, or does that picture make tom cruise look even shorter than normal?

    MAVERICK!

    Leah,
You neglected to mention the “several Scientology ministers” Travolta brought along…

It is interesting to note that those people who could do much more to help others, do write such unfair critiques on those who are actually doing something about it in big time. John Travolta is right now in Haiti with his wife. He personally delivered six tons of ready-to-eat military rations and medical supplies, a team of doctors and Volunteer Ministers. My question is this: Where is your help? – besides criticizing those people who set the good example for all of us. What did you do to help the Haitians? And why you are so nasty about John Travolta and Tom Cruise? (two people I really like)

    Istvan Szaniszlo,
Yes he flew supplies down there, and doctors too…however, he is using this opportunity to help as an opportunity to shove his “religion” onto the people of Haiti. His help comes with a price…

Thats right Izzy you tell em!!!!!

On another note all the $ that was raised is fantastic and there is a lot ALOT of money. I was wondering if that $ will be put to good use, if it will acually go to helping these poor poor people. Or if it will go to the pockets of there leaders. Ya know what I mean?
