The Tony Award Winners!

“The History Boys,” Alan Bennett’s exploration of the relationship between an eccentric teacher and his students, won six Tony Awards, while “Jersey Boys,” the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons celebration, was named best musical and won four awards. Cynthia Nixon was probably the only acting winner that the majority of the country has ever heard of.

In a show with 60 presenters (there was no host), the glitz came from those hailing from Hollywood. Julia Roberts, whose performance wasn’t well received this season on Broadway was one of those appearing from Tinseltown. Roberts won a warm round of applause for acknowledging her lack of stage credentials: “I just want to take this opportunity to say that you people are insanely talented,”

    Tony Awards- Does anyone even watch those anymore? Why would anyone west of the Hudson River give a Rat’s Ass about an award show for something they would never see at a Wal-Mart.

    I agree, Cyndi Lauper was amazing. That voice is underutilized. The power it gave off during her performance was something to be seen. One of those “I’m glad I experienced it” things.
